During this third week, we focus on Option for the Poor and Vulnerable. “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you…” (Matt 25:31). Scripture reminds us that some people’s needs are so urgent and so great that their needs come first. Therefore, while everyone is important, those whose voice in our society is ignored, those whose human rights are violated, those whose dignity is not recognized, must take our first priority. When we enter into the lives and the struggles of the poor and vulnerable, we experience Jesus’ presence in a real and powerful way. We need to remember in this principle persons who are elderly, disabled, marginalized, vulnerable, formerly incarcerated or otherwise discriminated against or disadvantaged. Under this principle fall issues such as addiction, mental health, healthcare, and systems that perpetuate poverty.

Congratulations to our Parish Knights for receiving top award!

Knights of Columbus Fr. Aufderheide Council #12912 in Vandalia was awarded the distinction of Gold Star Council, the international organization’s top honor for local councils. They were one of 18 out of 387 councils in State of Ohio that received this prestigious award.

This council also achieved the Columbian Award for completion of 16 program credits in the “4 Faith in Action” categories of Church, community, council, family, culture of life and youth that provided meaningful help to the people and families of their parish and community. In addition, they achieved the Father McGivney Award for membership growth, and the Founders Award for Member Insurance growth.

These awards recognize a council’s overall excellence in the areas of growing membership, sponsoring Catholic faith formation programs and volunteering time through service-oriented activities.

AN INVITATION TO JOIN Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to men 18 years of age or older who are practical (that is, practicing) Catholics. For information on joining the Knights of Columbus contact your local Membership Director Bill Hagerty or go to and select JOIN. Both methods provide instructions on how to login to the 30-minute virtual initiation ceremony from the privacy of your own home – it’s that simple.

Fr. Smith is now offering drive thru reconciliation in the Prayer Garden parking lot at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tipp City on Wednesdays & Fridays, 12pm-1pm [Rain or Shine].

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place, we regret to inform you that the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 St. Christopher Holiday Craft Bazaar. If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact Judy Shoup.

The Vandalia-Butler Food Pantry is partnering up with several area churches and asking each to donate certain items. St. Christopher Parish has been asked to cover the need for spaghetti and spaghetti sauce.

If you are willing to donate spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, or any other non-perishable goods, please bring your donations to the church and place them on the carts located near the front and back entrances.

Due to COVID, this year’s Vandalia Butler Food Pantry 2020 Food Drive will be different. There will be no collecting or sorting of food this year. Instead, we will be delivering flyers to homes that ask for monetary donations, which they will make online. There will be no face-to-face contact with residents. Volunteers will be needed on Saturday, October 10th at 9:00am to pick up the flyers and deliver them.

Last year we collected $22,000 in canned goods. This year, because of the need, we hope to collect $22,500 in monetary donations. We’ve expanded the distribution areas so as to involve more households in caring for their neighbors in need. Therefore, we need many more volunteers to distribute flyers to homes this year. Please email Andrea Parker to sign up or for more information.

The 40 Days for Life campaign is about to begin: Sept. 23rd - Nov. 1st. We invite you to come out to the sidewalk in front of 1401 E. Stroop Rd. in Kettering to pray for the moms, dads, babies, and workers who are entering the abortion facility. There are so many other options available to moms and you are a sign of hope & love when you are present.  The vigil runs daily between the hours of 7am until 7pm, and we are asking for just 1 hour of your time.  Please give prayerful consideration in light of our call to stewardship and the giving of our time, talent, and treasures. As often is the case, the giving of our time blesses both those we serve and ourselves.

September 20 · October 18 · November 1  | @ 2 PM  | 1401 E. Stroop, Kettering
