Important Church Property Notice
Dear UUCGL community,
The town of Swampscott continues its process for choosing a location for a new elementary school. One of the selections that appears to be favored would be located on the Stanley Elementary School, which currently sits adjacent to our church property. The plan would be to build a two- or three-story building that would house up to 900 students. As part of that effort, they have created a Town survey of the proposed new elementary school options that are being discussed. If you are a Swampscott resident, we recommend that you complete the survey at https://www.bit.ly/choose4swamp as soon as possible. The placement of a new and much larger Stanley School at its current location will impact our church. The Swampscott Building Committee was given an extension from the MSBA (Massachusetts School Building Authority), so the deadline for people to take the survey is now October 13.
You can find more information about the school options at https://www.sites.google.com/swampscott.k12.ma.us/sbc/home. Please note that there have been at least three or more recorded School Building Committee meetings since June, but they have not been uploaded to the website as of 9/16.
Church lay leaders have been in conversation with the town and their consultants for the past several months. After reviewing and discussing an initial town proposal to utilize our property for significant vehicular traffic and parking, the Board voted unanimously to reject the proposal and indicate support for a solution that has no impact on church property.
As more information becomes available, we will continue to provide updates. If you have any questions, please contact Doreen Hodgkin, the chair of the Properties Committee at doreenhodgkin@gmail.com.

Blessing of the Animals Photo Request
Blessing of the Animals
is coming Sunday, October 4!

Please send Rev. Vicki photos of the beloved critters who have passed away in the past two years for our In Memoriam segment.
We will be offering a live blessing for animal companions in front of the church at 9am, following the same rubric that we did for the Drive-Up Water Communion. Our Zoom service will begin as usual at 10am. Details coming in the next Weekly Update!
Animals have been so important during this time of limited social interaction. It is important to celebrate the love and joy we share with them.

Zoom Helpful Hints
Enjoy each other's company in one or all of our Zoom gatherings! We hope that this will be easy for you to do and offer some simple instructions here:
1.   If you already have the Zoom software, just click on the link provided for each gathering. In most cases, it will take you directly to the gathering.
2.   If you do not have Zoom installed, click on the link and you will be prompted to download and run it, a very fast process, you should then be taken to the gathering. (To save time, you can download and install it before the gathering by going to https://zoom.us/download. How the software is installed is dependent on the device or browser you are using.)
3.   If it is asking for the meeting ID number and password, enter those specific numbers and you will be taken to the meeting.
If you are hosting a Zoom gathering, it is helpful to have an assistant who can monitor the waiting room or handle any technical needs, while you, the host, can attend to the gathering.
Hosts and attendees: when the gathering is over, follow the prompts, click leave meeting and be sure to close out of Zoom, if you don't, people can still see or hear you! Be careful when you Zoom!

Pastoral Care Ministry Team
The good news is that, presently, no one in our congregation, of the calls our Pastoral Team has been making, is symptomatic of the coronavirus. We count our blessings. Each of us is challenged not only by a barrage of information but also by creatively adapting to new ways of "life, as
usual." Feeling lonely? Need groceries? Got coping ideas to share? Is there a change in your contact info (since September)? Call 781-595-8836 ext 16.
