Thoughts from Rebecca

 Hello Rebecca,

It has been a busy and hot summer, and we want to thank everyone that attended our Northside On the Move meeting and participated in the survey. Please be on the lookout for more information on Northside on the Move.

Fall is here along with some cooler weather. Let's hope it lasts as we have several exciting events coming up in the Greater Northside Management District, including National Night Out, Jensen Jubilee and the 9th Annual Tour de Northside.

We're thrilled that the Northside Festival is being added to the Tour de Northside. The Northside Festival is a partnership with several groups including Precinct2gether, University of Houston-Downtown and the District.  The festival will be held in the parking lot of the UHD Science & Technology Building at 315 North Main Street. You won't want to miss the music, art market, live art, salsa tasting and more!

Information about these events is included in this newsletter, including how to purchase Tour de Northside sponsorships and/or become a Northside Festival vendor.

The Hernandez Tunnel was featured in the Summer/Fall 2022 issue of the University of Houston-Downtown Magazine. This was a milestone for the Greater Northside Management District after years of working to make this project a reality. The above picture is the spread on the inside cover of the magazine.

We're proud of the Greater Northside and appreciate being part of such a thriving community. Thank you for all that you do to make the Northside a great place to live, work and play!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Reyna

"Thrive for Greatness" holds graduation

In 2021, Greater Northside Management District and Avenue CDC launched an initiative called "Thrive for Greatness" to raise awareness about the importance of investing in the Greater Northside. Twenty-four businesses were selected to participate in the program, which provided them with education about finance, marketing and other needs to grow their businesses.

The businesses that completed the training recently graduated from the program and were recognized in a ceremony attended by GNMD and Avenue CDC representatives, Univision and La Prensa de Houston.

Among the graduates was Consuelo Ramirez, owner of Antojitos Northside, who expressed great satisfaction with this opportunity for small businesses. "It's hard to get afloat and start once again from scratch.  This was a great opportunity for me and for our people who come to this country to get ahead."

The program is expected to continue to benefit even more Hispanic businesses.

Attendees at the "Thrive for Greatness" graduation included GNMD Deputy Director Anibeth Turcious, from left, Avenue Director of Community Initiatives Claudia Sanchez-Lopez, HTX Art owners and program graduates Norberto Moreno and Roni Moreno, CulturaCodes contact Sineria Ordonez and GNMD Executive Director Rebecca Reyna.
