SENIOR NAMED NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP COMMENDED STUDENT
We are proud to announce that ECA senior Milaina Reaoch has been named a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student! A letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, has been presented to this scholastically gifted senior.
Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). This means that out of the 1.5 million students entering the program, Milaina is in the top 3%!
Eden Christian Academy's most recent commended students received full to significant academic scholarships to Syracuse University, the University of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University, and Liberty University.
Join us in congratulating Milaina on achieving this honor.

ECA STRATEGIC PLAN LAUNCHED SEPT 25
Survey 1 Closes on October 2 at 10:00 am
Details about the strategic plan including a link to Survey 1 were sent to your email on September 25. Please be sure to read this important message outlining the purpose, focus, and expected outcomes for the process that is underway.
Here’s an overview of what you can expect.
-
You will receive a total of seven surveys (one a week) sent to you on Fridays by email asking you to evaluate a specific aspect of the Eden experience. Survey 1 was sent to you on September 25.
- Each survey will remain open for one week.
- We ask that you submit only one survey response per household.
-
Your responses to the surveys will inform the development of focus group conversations that will take place in November and December.
-
You will receive invitations to register to participate in the focus group conversations that are of most interest to you.
-
Following the surveys and focus groups, the board and administration will assemble stakeholder committees to pray through the themes that rise to the top. The board and administration will then prayerfully establish Eden’s highest priority goals for the next five to seven years and will draft and publish strategic plans that will, Lord willing, meet those goals.
Your participation is a critical component to the strategic plan process.
Add your voice to the conversation by completing Survey 1 today!

Greetings Eden Family,
We are thankful for the great start to the school year and are truly grateful to be back on campus together.
In chapel over the next few weeks, the Class of 2021 will share their vision for the school year.
After spending significant time together in prayer and discussion, their vision and desire is to lead as One Body by unifying the school and allowing every student to understand their individual value and the Lord’s purpose for their life.
To that end, they have developed three key focal points: Awakened, Transformed, and Discipled.
-
Awakened to the need for every student to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and aspiring to grow closer to Him daily.
-
Transformed by the renewing of their mind and spirit to become more Christ-like.
-
Discipled by faculty and staff and embracing the opportunity to disciple the underclassmen at school.
The Class of 2021 aspires to this vision as they seek the Lord while leading and making a difference this year! Please remember to pray for our seniors as they finish their race at Eden and prepare for the Lord’s good and perfect plan for each of their lives.
Amazingly, Quarter 1 Progress Reports will be sent to parents early this week. Progress reports are a great opening for conversation at home and review of learning and study habits.
Here are some ideas to start the conversation with your young adult:
Organization
- What is required of you? What are your assignments and due dates?
- Where is the best location to work? (Set a designated area within your home.)
- Make a plan to limit distractions. (Technology can distract.)
Plan Ahead
- Major assessments and tests should include multiple days of preparation.
- Utilize Tutoring Study (TS) periods at school.
- Meet with your teachers and come prepared with questions.
Phone A Friend
- Self-talk is an excellent way to demonstrate mastery of a lesson.
- Collaboration with peers is imperative for success. Have a small group of friends in each class to contact (talk, text or email) about your questions.
Thank you, parents, for entrusting us with your children.
We look forward to partnering with you throughout the 2020-2021 school year!
God Bless,
Todd Aiken
Upper School Principal

DATE CHANGE FOR PSAT/NMSQT
Students in Grades 10 & 11
Please mark your calendar to reflect a date change in this year's standardized testing opportunity at Eden Christian Academy. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Special Attention Students in Grades 11 & 12
This year's post high school exploration experience for college and careers may look different than years past, but there are still many opportunities to consider. I am available and eager to walk through the process with you just as I've done with previous Eden families over the last three years!
This year, for the safety and health of our students and families, we will not invite college representatives to visit us on-campus at lunch during the fall and winter. We will reevaluate in the spring to decide what is most appropriate and beneficial going forward. I will share virtual and in-person resources and opportunities in the weekly updates and I'm personally available to help you navigate the college and career process by phone, email, and in person as needed.
If you are a senior and applying to colleges, please keep in mind that our local PHEAA representative is Marian Hargrave and she can help your family complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which opens up October 1, 2020. Please check out STUDENTAID.GOV for additional information and feel free to reach out to Marian directly at 724.614.3823 or mhargrav@pheaa.org with individual questions.
Please contact me if I can be of assistance with transcripts, common application pieces, the FAFSA, or other questions you may have. I look forward to seeing where God leads the class of 2021!
Mrs. Brenda A. Cischke, M.A., NCC
Director of College and Career Counseling
