A FINAL WORD FROM OUR BISHOP
|
I greet you one last time as your bishop in the name of Jesus Christ, our Shepherd and Savior!
In 2016, the Desert Southwest Conference presented me with a bishop’s banner. Pictured here, the banner featured the familiar phrase, “ALL MEANS ALL.” That phrase should be inherent in each of us once we give our lives to Jesus Christ. Just as God loves all persons, all Christ followers are to love in the same measure... Continue reading

Instead of an in-person retirement celebration for our bishop, a virtual celebration was offered at the Special Session of the Western Jurisdictional Conference in July. As the Desert Southwest Conference, we also shared our affirmation and appreciation of Bishop Bob Hoshibata at the last Episcopacy Committee meeting with him. Those videos may be found HERE.

THE BOOK OF JAMES - STUDY & SERIES
|
Join Pastor Jeff for a “Pastor’s Bible Study on the Book of James,” Thursdays at Noon & 5:30pm, today, October 7, 14, and 21. Click Here for the Zoom link.
The Letter of James belongs to the wisdom literature tradition in the Bible – like Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. Unlike Paul’s epistles, which were addressed to churches, James is more of an exhortation to individuals regarding the Christian life. The basics of faith are assumed; it speaks to how one lives out one’s spirituality. With its 54 imperative verbs, James is an urgent demand for an active faith. It’s been said that the Letter of James is like taking a cold shower – uncomfortable but invigorating! Together we'll read this practical book and consider its concrete advice for living faithfully.

You are invited to bring your animal companions (in a carrier or on a leash) to church for a special blessing this Sunday, October 17, at noon. Church is the place where the bond of creation is celebrated. Every creature is important. The love we give to and receive from our animal companions can draw us more deeply into the larger circle of life, and into the wonder of our common relationship to our Creator. For persons unable to attend the Pet Blessing and would like to have their pet blessed, please send a photo via email to Pastor Joel at joel@dayspring-umc.org.

We are collecting new or gently used towels for guests to shower with when they arrive at the International Rescue Committee Welcome Center. Please deliver donations to the church office or email Celeste to arrange pickup.

Our ministry with asylum seekers is still in need of donations. The International Rescue Committee continues to receive from 100 to 200 people per day. This has resulted in constantly depleted stocks of clothing, shoes and other items, including smaller adult size casual pants/jeans and tennis/athletic shoes, sturdy work boots, flip-flops, disposable razors, travel-size shaving cream and nail clippers. Please email Pastor Jim O’Neal to arrange for items to be picked up. Learn more

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY CLOTHING DRIVE
|
As part of our ongoing Project Hope Mission project, we are proud to have built three wells in Liberia with the help of Prince Mayson and the Mayson family. We are partnering again for a Children’s Shoes and Clothing Drive to deliver to children in the communities in and around where our previous wells have been built. Please bring gently used clothes and shoes, as well as new toothbrushes and toothpastes to the donation bins in the Narthex by October 31. Please email Emily with questions.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on the patio and at the church office beginning this Sunday and are 50 for $20 or $.50 a ticket at the door. Everyone experiences grief differently, but having skills to process life after loss can make life bearable and, hopefully, life giving. On Mondays, at 6:30pm, Dayspring is hosting a Zoom grief support group. This class introduces skills that persons may find helpful in their journey of healing. If you, or someone you know needs support in grieving a major loss in your life, such as a death or broken relationship, or job loss, this is a safe place to process in community. Please register by emailing Pastor Joel. Psychologist and Dayspring member, Dr. Sharon Zygowicz facilitates the sessions.
