Storm Newsletter

September 30, 2024

We had a really fun meet at Palona Vista Park on Saturday! The times were fast! We had 24 athletes break into the Storm all time top 10 list for this course! Next week we are at Peirce Collège! This is one of the oldest courses in Southern California and we have been running it for the last 50 years. Everyone will love the hills, especially the famous "Puck Hill" at the end!

It is supposed to be hot again on Saturday so we will start the races at 8:00. Please not all age groups will be earlier than the past few weeks and the races will overlap!!

As we go into our final half of the meets, many are thinking about the Post Season with Valley United Striders. If you look on the cross country page at the bottom of the page is a "Ranking File" If your athletes has been coming in the top 20-25 they may want to considerer the all star team. We take the top athletes from all the teams and form A,B and some times C teams to compete in the USATF Junior Olympic competition that could end up at the Jr. Olympics in Shelbyville Indiana. Teams must qualify through a series of races.

We are planning our awards for the end of the season, one of them is the Academic award for all 3.5 (B+)and 4.0 (A) students. Please click the link and have your Childs teacher fill this out, or attach a report card or midterm report. Medals will need to be ordered, so the dead for me to is October 3rd, so please do this right away! Our Banquet will be Sunday Oct. 27th 6:00 pm at a new location, The Canyon Country Community Center !! More details as we get closer.

Coach Jeremy's Notes to the Team

Hey Parents and Athletes!

We are gearing up for an amazing finish to this season. I still can’t believe we only have 3 weeks left!

So let’s get down to business.

First, another great day of racing for the team at Palona Vista . I’m so proud of how you are all battling and really taking to hear the idea that YOU are the only one that can choose to push yourself to the max! It doesn’t matter where you finish in the race, it’s a matter of you looking yourself in the mirror and saying: YOU KICKED BUTT TODAY!

This time of season is always bitter sweet as we are running speed and fast to give you the best shot at an amazing finish, while at the same time I’m thinking “how are we already to this point”. I guess the bottom line is, let’s just enjoy it, every workout, every warm up with friends, every hard interval, and the 3 remaining races of the season.

For this week we will be running long again tonight. Followed by some tempo tomorrow night. I put in the workout to run based on how tired you are. But don’t let that slow you down. Push for at least the last half if you need to start off a little easier. Tempo and Fast Tempo runs give you the strength the go farther faster. Thursday we’ll be running a combo of fast hill repeats and then fast flat repeats. I love this workout because it really gets your body wondering what it going on!

Reminders as we get to the end of the season:

  1. Watch out for snotty/runny nose friends and siblings. You don’t want to get sick now!
  2. Don’t drink after others, ever!
  3. Stay away from doing things that can break and arm or get you hurt.
  4. Eat healthy to keep that Ferrari engine purring the way it should.
  5. Keep pushing hard and keep smiling!

Ok, that’s it for now.

I’m still out of town but will be back to practice Tuesday, so thank you Coaches for leading and thank you athletes for working hard and being awesome!

Thank you,

Coach Jeremy

Sincerely,
