4-H Horse Club

Monday, September 1 and Monday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Saddle Pals Riding Club in Soddy Daisy. Grades 4th-12th. Horse ownership is not required. There is no cost to participate. Learn about horses and horse care and compete in 4-H contests based on your knowledge of horses. Horse Club members prepare for the Eastern Region 4-H Hippology and Horse Bowl contests at University of Tennessee - Knoxville. This club meets on the first Monday of each month and focuses on preparation for contests involving knowledge of horses, not horseback riding. 4-H STEM Club Meeting

Meets Monday, September 8th - 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Extension Office (6183 Adamson Circle). 4th-8th grade youth in Hamilton County are welcome to join the 4-H STEM club to learn about robotics, coding, 3-D printing, rockets, and more! 4-H Gardening Club
September 29 at 4:30 p.m.

Meets Monday, September 29 at 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the UT-TSU Extension Hamilton County office, 6183 Adamson Circle, Chattanooga. Grades 4th-8th. There is no cost to participate. Learn about plants, gardening, soil, insects and more in this fun, hands-on club. Activities are led by Master Gardeners. New members are welcome at every meeting. At the September meeting, club members will prepare the 4-H garden for Fall and also learn about some pests and diseases to look out for in their own yards, including spotted lanternfly, emerald ash borer, thousand cankers disease and sudden oak death. Meets Monday, October 20 at 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the UT-TSU Extension Hamilton County office, 6183 Adamson Circle, Chattanooga. Grades 4th-12th. There is no cost to participate. The Hamilton County 4-H Vet Science club returns on a new night this year - meetings will be held on the 3rd Monday of each month during the school year. The Hamilton County 4-H Veterinary Science Club will focus on learning about both domestic animals and wildlife. Darah Moreland presents to Extension Agriculture Committee | | Commissioner David Sharpe, Darah Moreland, Commissioner Dr. Steve Highlander and Frank Heery | During the August Ag Committee meeting Darah Moreland, Senior High 4-H member, shared her 4-H experiences. The Ag Committee members were impressed with her experiences and depth of knowledge related to her 4-H project – Entomology and Beekeeping. She also shared her experiences attending national meetings with 4-H including the Southern Region Teen Leadership Conference and 4-H Ignite! Conference. Darah is a state Level 1 winner in Entomology, Honor Club member and All Star member. | | |

Dalis Dunn has done a great job raising her birds. She has an area where they can free range. She has enjoyed raising them and shared that they are gentle and friendly birds.
Myla Holland has her coop set up in the back yard of her home. She and her sister Saddie take care of the birds. They said the birds eat a lot of food and stay around each other.

| | | | Healthy Lifestyle Ambassadors | Hamilton County youth attended the yearly training to become certified Healthy Lifestyle Ambassadors for Hamilton County and Tennessee. These 4-H youth include – Calla Siler, Lillian Shank, Liam Cook and Noah Ham. The ambassadors will be assisting with activities and events throughout the year. They will also be planning some programming working with younger youth. Their day was filled with instruction, curriculum, teamwork and making new friends. The day ended with a trip to UTK campus to enjoy some ice cream from the UT Creamery. | | Working to keep all our responsibilities up in the air and how we handle this daily | | Noah, Liam, and Calla preparing their balloon in the stressors activity | | John Wood 4-H Scholarship Recipient | John Wood has been selected to receive the 2025 Anastasia Saunders Memorial Scholarship for $250 from the Tennessee 4-H Foundation. This scholarship is awarded to an Eastern Region 4-H member. Congratulations to John! | | If you are interested in working on your 2026 4-H Portfolio it is not too early to start it. There is a new format for the 2026 records. There will still be the same components but there are some changes. Youth in 6th – 12th grades may submit a portfolio for competition. There are entries open to both youth and adult. The list of entries and guidelines are on the competition page. The mail-in deadline is October 22nd and the online registration deadline is October 29th. Check out the entries you can enter. We will have a 4-H booth at the Fair. | | Ag Night at the Lookouts! | | It was a great night for baseball at the 2025 Ag Night at the Chattanooga Lookouts Game sponsored by Chattanooga Tractor. There were animals, recognition, booths providing education and a fun night of baseball and fireworks. Special thanks to the youth who assisted with the Extension and 4-H booth. They shared agricultural information and asked questions of the fans related to agriculture. Both adults and youth stopped by the booth to learn more about 4-H, Agriculture and Extension. There are two opportunities approaching for adult 4-H Volunteers.
Shooting Sports Training – get certified in a shooting sports discipline. Training will be held October 4th at York 4-H Center in Crossville. This is a day long training. There are also online trainings required for certification. More information is available at the state 4-H website's shooting sports page.
4-H Volunteer Conference – Spark, Ignite, and Thrive is open to adult leaders and held at Rock Eagle, Georgia. Join other volunteer leaders from across the southeast at this conference to be held October 2-5, 2025. Registration is now open. Cost is about $400 – scholarships are available while funds last.
