Reminder to all Trainers (formerly: Instructor Trainers)
All current Trainers must attend a Trainer Mandatory Update Clinic by December 31, 2018. There is one remaining Trainer Mandatory Update Clinic scheduled for 2018 in November (Edmonton). Course information and links to registration are provided below. If you have already attended a Trainer Mandatory Update Clinic please disregard this reminder.
Trainer Course (formerly: Instructor Trainer)
September 21-23, 2018 (Host: Town of Okotoks - Okotoks Recreation Centre)         Register
Trainers are responsible for preparing candidates to assume leadership roles as Lifesaving Society Instructors, Examiners, and Coaches. Trainers are responsible to teach, evaluate, and certify candidates for Lifesaving Society Instructor, Examiner and Coach certifications in the topical streams in which they are appropriately qualified. They may be appointed as a Mentor.
Prerequisite(s):  Application, leadership experience, current Lifesaving Instructor.
Candidates must complete the Course/Clinic Application Form and forward to the Society's office for approval prior to registering for course.

Lifesaving Society Motto Updated
The Lifesaving Society has adopted the reworded gender neutral Royal Life Saving Society Commonwealth Motto.
'Quemcunque miserum videris hominem scias' which means 'Whomsoever you see in distress, recognize in them a fellow human being'.

Addressing Impairment in the Workplace

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety has written an article in the Health and Safety report about the impacts of the legalization of recreational cannabis in the workplace. The article helps to understand impairment, employer and employee roles, accommodation and testing and developing workplace policies and programs that address impairment. Read the full article.

Edmonton Sport Council is offering a professional development workshop for coaches during this week: Deliberate Practice Techniques Using the LTAD Model on September 22.
