COG’s current COVID-19 Update
Soul Care
Front Stage -vs- Back Stage
9.6.20

Text: Matthew 12:33-37; Psalm 130:5-6; Matthew 11:28; Jeremiah 6:16

33“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgement for every careless word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
                                                            Matthew 12:33-37    NIV

Use the following game plan with your family, LifeGroup, or personal study this week. Allow this game plan to stimulate conversations with each other and with God.

Game Plan This Week:

1st Down:
-        Review the sermon
o   What were the main points?
o   What points were most meaningful to you?

2nd Down:
-        Study/discuss the text
o   Matthew 12:33-37
o   Jeremiah 6:16 à what are the actions we need to do? Look for the verbs.
§  When we need rest, why is standing and looking so important? (Asking and walking?)
§  What makes the lessons of these passages difficult to apply?

3rd Down:
-        Break into smaller groups and discuss these questions and pray for each other:
o   Which do you think is most common among Christians? (anger, bitterness, envy, jealousy)
§  Why do you think this is so prevalent?
§  Which of these do you struggle with the most often?
o   In your experience, has disease, starvation, or fatigue of the soul been most noticeable?
-        Pray for each other:
o   Share with your group how you would have them pray for your soul? (For rest, peace, nourishment, direction, health, etc)
o   Share other needs in your life right now (employment, finances, relationships, family, health, etc.)

4th Down:
-        This week make a commitment to sit down often with God and discuss the health of your soul.
o   Ask God to strengthen, heal, refresh your soul.
o   Ask God to point out anything backstage that is not producing good fruit.
o   Ask God to help you clean-up any back stage messes.
What’s Happening

Communion: We will observe the Lord's supper on Sept 20th.

SOGCOG: Students of Grace has started a new teaching series called "Just Asking for a Friend". Pastor J will be leading our youth through some of the difficult questions you or a friend might be asking in the back of your mind. This will be a great opportunity to strengthen your faith and even open the door to invite your friends as we discuss what the Bible says about these challenging topics. Topics will include:
9/9 - How can a loving God send people to hell?
9/16 - Why did God make me like this?
9/23 - Why doesn't God answer my prayers?
If you would like more information, contact Pastor J.
