Dear Northwest Christian family,

Ready and waiting! According to AZ Central, "The spread of COVID-19 has slowed enough for schools in ten Arizona counties, including in metro Phoenix, to reopen for in-person classes under state health recommendations. The benchmarks, which use the level of COVID-19 spread as the barometer for safely reopening school buildings, show that the state's two most populated counties —Maricopa and Pima — meet the health benchmarks." If you are a family that has been using NCS Plus as you waited for the county to cross this line in the sand, we want you to know that when you are ready to have your students back on campus, we are too! To start that process, simply reach out to the student's principal and let them know so that attendance records are accurate.

Face covering endgame. With this vital metric in the rear view mirror, hopefully for good, we have started investigating the appropriate strategy for the endgame relative to face coverings. Developing that strategy means plenty of conversations with county health officials, our faculty and staff, physicians, and others. Our intent? To move as fast as we can but as slow as we must. Thank you for your patience as we develop this strategy and please know that we intend to communicate it here as soon as we are able.

Important information regarding athletics. Whether your student is engaged in high school athletics, middle school athletics, or the elementary's Junior Crusader athletic program, Northwest Christian is beginning to communicate the protocols for families and fans at games. Our intention is to have this guidance to our families within the next week. While Northwest Christian will be paying close attention to recommendations put forward by the Arizona Interscholastic Association (for high school) and the Cactus Christian Schools League (for middle school), when we play host to games, ultimately we will determine the protocols for fans. But, families of athletes need to understand that when we are the visiting team, the host school is responsible to set its own protocols for fans. This may mean that the school could have the same protocols or they might be more restrictive. To keep you informed, in addition to shortly communicating our home game guidance, we will be communicating opposing team guidance to the families of athletes.

Kids get sick! As we have done since school resumed, we continue to chart student health office information and make that info available to our families within this weekly email. The reason? We want to avert potential Covid-related fears arising when the inevitable sniffles kick in! To see how we tracked this past week, please click here.

What if my child has symptoms? Though the weather app on your phone may not agree, we are moving towards the change of seasons and cooler temperatures. As we do, inevitably students will begin displaying symptoms associated with allergies, colds, flu, and, unfortunately, Covid-19. As this happens, we will increasingly have questions about staying home and coming to school. To assist, I have distilled the applicable guidance from within the 16-page Campus Readiness Plan, pages 8 and 9, and made that conveniently available here.

Clubs are rolling! So many fun ways to plug in! There is a place for every student at Northwest Christian School! No matter your interest, clubs and student activities are an opportunity to plug into a community of new friends, have fun, and make memories. Every Monday morning at 7:30am, a "Crusader Student Activities" email will hit the inboxes of parents and students. Want a preview of the email that you will get tomorrow morning? Click here! So many fun ways to plug in!

Just a reminder, students must be within handbook guidelines for hair. Hair is to be neat, clean, and a “natural color.” No extreme styles allowed. When combed out, boys’ hair may not be over their eyebrows, earlobes or collars. Male students must be clean-shaven, beards and mustaches are not allowed.

Please contact the school office when going on or off NCS Plus. This is very important as that accurate NCS Plus rosters are vital for our teachers. Your student's attendance may be adversely affected if communication is not happening correctly. Thank you!
