MWD Asks for 15-Day Watering Restrictions

An emergency repair to a pipeline bringing water to Southern California has led to a regional call for significant water use reduction for up to 15 days starting Sept. 6. Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, or MWD, the agency that provides imported water to much of the region, needs to repair a leaking pipeline that brings water from the Colorado River to the region. About 30 percent of Long Beach Water is purchased from MWD, with the rest coming from local groundwater wells and reclaimed water facilities. To make giving even easier, donors can contribute from Thursday, Sept. 15th at 12 am until Friday, Sept. 23rd at 10 am.

And Finally....

Incredible “Bicycle Kick” Video Goes Viral

Unless you attended last Sunday’s soccer match at LBSU’s George Allen Field, you missed one of the best goals in NCAA history. Fortunately, it was captured on video, and we’ve posted two versions below from LBSU Soccer and the562.org. In the 88th minute of the match with San Diego, LBSU Senior, Lena Silano, tied the score with a one-in-a-million bicycle kick. The assist from Elysia Laramie was taken in mid-air and kicked directly into the goal. Lena Silano became an instant celebrity as the video went viral. The photo below is a composite of three images from the video showing Lena’s incredible athletic ability. We are so proud of Lena and happy this took place at home in our 4th council district… and that Lena wears #4. Go Fourth! and Go Beach!
