Student Sponsorship Month!

Greetings!

September is a very important month at EEESMA School for the Deaf, not only because it marks a new school term but also because September is Student Sponsorship Month and every one of our 30 amazing students deserves a sponsor.

This year, we are thrilled that all of our students have returned to school, and we’re excited to welcome a brand-new student to the EEESMA family.

Thank you to all our current EEESMA Student Sponsors! You are making a big difference in a child's life. But right now, 10 students still do not have sponsors.

Sponsorship makes a life-changing difference for our Deaf students, allowing them to continue learning, thriving, and building brighter futures. Your support provides essential education, language development, and life skills; opportunities these children would not otherwise have.

The cost of a sponsorship is:

US $100 per month or $1200 per year
Canadian $120 per month or $1440 per year

Student Spotlight

Eduardo is 8-years-old and in the third grade. He has been attending EEESMA for one year and has adjusted very well to school life. He has met new classmates, formed friendships, and become a valued member of his class community.

Eduardo is a very friendly child, though he may be a little shy when meeting new people.

Eduardo looks forward to learning new subjects and has made excellent progress in both Mexican Sign Language (LSM) and written Spanish.

He especially enjoys reading classroom books and stories, as well as expressing his creativity through drawing; his favorite subject, the capybara. Outside school, Eduardo loves to run and play, often with his favorite dinosaur toy.

Eduardo has shared that he would one day like to become a teacher, inspired no doubt by his own positive learning experiences. His enthusiasm for learning and his natural kindness suggest a bright and promising future.

Congrats to our grads moving from primary to middle school and from middle school to high school.

Heartfelt Moments at Graduation

One of the most moving highlights of the Graduation Event was the heartfelt tributes delivered by parents to their children, in sign language. For many parents, this was the very first time they were able to directly express their pride and congratulations in their child’s own, first language. These children, who are Deaf, watched with joy as their parents celebrated their accomplishments in such a deeply personal way.

This beautiful milestone was made possible through EEESMA’s after-school Family Language Acquisition Program, where teachers dedicate extra time to help parents learn Mexican Sign Language (LSM).

The result was an unforgettable moment of love, connection, and pride. There truly wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

Signs and Smiles Workshops -

A Great Success!

We are delighted to share that the Signs and Smiles Volunteer Training Team—Marie, Chris, Mary Grace, Jennifer, and Kenton—returned to EEESMA School for the Deaf during the week of August 18th to lead another outstanding series of workshops.

The week was filled with valuable professional development sessions, not only for EEESMA teachers, but also for deaf education professionals from across the states of Guanajuato and Querétaro. Their commitment to sharing knowledge and strengthening skills continues to make a lasting impact.

A heartfelt thank you Signs and Smiles for your generosity, passion, and dedication!

We are also deeply grateful to the Rotary Foundation and the many Rotary Clubs whose Global Grant funding made this project possible. Thanks to your support, EEESMA teachers and teaching assistants are better equipped than ever to serve our students.

There are no government supported schools for the Deaf in the state of Guanajuato. Public schools offer little or no sign language instruction.

Opened in 2012, EEESMA offers kids who are Deaf a better chance in life.
