Tonight's Game Night has been cancelled

Dear Beloved Community,

This Sunday we come to the final week of The Circle of Practice: Shaping Our Faith as we explore the practice of Reconciliation, and share Holy Communion together.

Our Scripture readings are Exodus 12:1–14 and Matthew 18:15–20. Together, they invite us to think about the importance of retelling our stories and what it means to find our way back to one another when relationships break.

Reconciliation isn’t always easy. Sometimes it means forgiveness. Sometimes, telling the truth. Sometimes it means taking the first step. And sometimes, making room for God to do the work in us that we aren’t quite ready to do ourselves.

Over these 6 weeks, we’ve talked about generosity, trust, welcome, confession, surrender, and now reconciliation. The goal was never to check each practice off our list. It’s a circle we keep coming back to again and again as we seek to follow Jesus.

And this Sunday, we’re going to do something a little different. We have a special way to bring the series to a close.

Remember those circles we cut out a few weeks ago?  They are a part of something extra special that Carolyn Robbins and Ellen Peterson, have been creating for worship this Sunday!  I’m going to keep the details under wraps—but I will say that you won’t want to miss it. 😉

Their artistry will be a beautiful way to bring the Circle of Practice and Holy Communion together, to remind us that faith is something we practice, share, and live together.

Join us Sunday as we Draw the Circle Wide together—and discover that the ending is really another beginning.

Come ready to worship, remember, reflect, and maybe to be surprised!

In hope and love,

Elizabeth

September Bible Study

Genesis: A Beginner’s Guide to the Beginning

By Amy-Jill Levine

Join us as we participate in a six-Sunday discussion of Amy-Jill Levine’s new book GENESIS: A Beginner’s Guide to the Beginning, where we will look at six stories in Genesis: the creation of humanity and the subsequent events in Eden; Cain & Abel, Noah, the flood and its aftermath; Abraham’s almost-sacrifice of his beloved son Isaac; Jacob’s dream of a stairway (it’s not a ladder) to heaven; and Mrs. Potiphar’s sexual harassment of Joseph. The people in these stories are not perfect. They lie and blame others for their actions; they deceive and betray; they murder and engage in human trafficking. They are humans at their best and their worst. They are invitations to discussion.    Join us as we explore the Bible’s first stories of creation, conflict, judgment, and mercy. In these stories, we may be reminded of people we have known; we may be reminded of ourselves!
