White House Issues Maternal Health Blueprint

The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to cutting the rates of maternal mortality and morbidity. They stress their support for reducing the disparities in maternal health outcomes and improving the overall experience of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum for people across the country. In the White House's Maternal Health Blueprint, a new program called Reducing Disparities in Breastfeeding Innovation Challenge will identify effective programs that increase breastfeeding initiation and continuation rates, decrease disparities among breastfeeding individuals, and demonstrate sustainability and the ability to expand the program.

Breastfeeding Report Card

The CDC is continuing its mission to support breastfeeding families as the many health benefits for infants, children, and mothers are a key strategy to improve public health. Data show that breastfeeding initiation rates are strong but many families do not breastfeed for as long as they intend to, and breastfeeding disparities by race and ethnicity persist. The steady decline in breastfeeding from month-to-month indicates that breastfeeding families may need stronger systems of support to reach their breastfeeding goals.
