CABE Pepperdine Chapter – 2025–2026 Student Board Announcement

We’re excited to introduce the new CABE Pepperdine student board, a dynamic team of scholars and advocates committed to multilingual equity and inclusive education.

JinHee Lee, President

JinHee is an Ed.D. student in Learning Technologies, passionate about language as a bridge across cultures and digital equity for multilingual learners.

Brenda García Castro, Vice President

Brenda is a Ph.D. student in Global Leadership and Change, assistant principal, and advocate for immigrant families and culturally responsive education.

Lizeth Sandoval, Scholar-Practitioner Representative Lizeth is a Ph.D. student focused on multilingualism and learning disabilities; educational therapist dedicated to inclusive, justice-centered practices.

Yujing Li, Research and Curriculum Liaison

Yujing is an Ed.D. student with a background in early childhood and iESOL, researching Mandarin materials in Dual language Immersion programs.

Kevin Wong, PhD, Faculty Liaison

Dr. Kevin Wong is an Associate Professor and Chair of the MA in TESOL program at Pepperdine University. His research and teaching are devoted to working with teachers to provide multilingual students with linguistically and culturally sustaining, equitable, and humanizing learning environments.

Other items of interest to the CABE community...

Selected reviewers will evaluate the publisher and content developers submitted instructional materials programs for alignment to the California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects and the California English Language Development Standards. 


Reviewers will be trained to utilize the Guidance to support the adoption and implementation of ELA/ELD instructional materials, approved by the SBE in November 2025, as well as grade-level standards maps and evaluation criteria map that were approved by the SBE in 2015.


Important Meeting Dates

  • April 28–May 1, 2026 (Reviewers must attend all four days)

Reviewer training held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Sacramento

  • May–July 2026

Independent review of submitted instructional material programs

  • Applicants should plan to be available the weeks of July 20–24 or July 27–31, 2026, for Deliberations (Reviewers must attend all four days of their assigned week)

Reconvene in panels for deliberations and the preparation of a Report of Findings


The CDE will reimburse travel costs for all reviewers for the meeting days. Reviewers will receive a $100 stipend per day for full participation in the four days of reviewer training in April–May 2026 and the four days of deliberations in July 2026.

The Postsecondary Data for Action Network is a national initiative that brings together cross-functional teams of institutional researchers, administrators, faculty, and data professionals committed to tackling persistent barriers to student success. Selected teams will leverage their own administrative and institutional data to inform strategy, translate findings into actionable insights for policy and practice, and share campus perspectives with policy audiences.
