FIELD TRIPS AND BIRD WALKS

A Note About Our Field Trips: We encourage participants to regularly check both the Liberty Bird Alliance website and Facebook page in advance of a field trip as the location can change due to road construction, a park closure, weather conditions, or other last-minute reasons. If you have any questions about a field trip, please contact: wyncotefieldtrips@gmail.com. Plan to arrive a few minutes before the scheduled time of the field trip. The time stated is the STARTING time, not the arrival time. This will give you time to get yourself ready, say hello, visit a restroom, and be ready to go. For all-day trips, please come prepared with lunch and have a full tank of gas.

Participant Release: Your decision to participate in an Audubon field trip or event signifies that you agree to not hold the Wyncote Audubon Society or any of its agents responsible for any accidents, losses, damages, or injuries resulting from your participation in the field trip or event.

Check the Liberty Bird Alliance website for details – Note that some Field Trip Bird Walks Require Preregistration

CHIMNEY SWIFT WATCH

Wednesday September 10, 2025

7:15 PM to 8:00 PM at Bryn Athyn College

Watching Chimney Swifts come in to roost is quite the spectacle! They spend a lot of time swirling around in the air before dropping into their roost site. Bring a chair and binoculars and join us in the parking lot of the Junge Ice Rink & Pavilion (3002 Cairnwood Dr, Bryn Athyn, PA 19009) to watch swifts descend into a nearby chimney for the night. Because swifts change their roosting spot, it is not guaranteed to see them the night we are watching. Before you attend this event, you can learn more about Chimney Swifts during our Chimney Swift 101 program on YouTube. This is a joint program with Wissahickon Trails, Liberty Bird Alliance, and the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust. Free. Registration is required. Register here:

Fall is the perfect time to plant native wildflowers and perennials. Fall-planted perennials bloom more profusely and develop larger blooms next season since their root systems have had time to grow while autumn temperatures are still warm. Native plants are a low maintenance and dependable alternative to labor-intensive gardening because they’re well adapted to our region. Visit the Liberty Bird Alliance Display for information about the value of native plant gardening for birds and wildlife and learn if you qualify for a Bird Habitat Recognition for your property!
