Happy September 2018 from Calhoun County Connections! As the weather cools and we prepare for a busy fall, here's an update about County news.

The County had much to celebrate in August. Retirements, courtyard enhancements, and opportunities to engage with residents across all offices and departments—August was busy.
On Aug. 16, we celebrated Bruce Huepenbecker's 43 years with Calhoun County. His service to the County and its residents is foundational to what we do. Pictured is Bruce and County Clerk Anne Norlander. Thanks to Kurtis Thornton for the photo.
At the Calhoun County Fair the week of Aug. 13, numerous offices participated in some capacity. Activities ranged from providing lunches for Senior Day, providing resources to Veterans during Veterans Day, and the Sheriff's Office providing security throughout the week. Thank you to everyone who participated.
To wrap up the month, we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first phase of construction at the County building, specifically for the new courtyard and parking lot where the jail stood. The new courtyard increases accessibility and security to the building.

Congratulations to Krista Trout-Edwards for her acceptance to the 16/50 Project's Women's Municipal Leadership Program through the Michigan Municipal League. This program is designed to provide women in government with an opportunity to advance their skills and leadership abilities. The 16/50 Project confronts the statistic that only 16 percent of Michigan's local chief administrative officers are women.
Congratulations to Tori Benden who is the new Juvenile Home Director for Calhoun County. She has 15 years experience with the County, serving 12 years as a juvenile probation officer and three years as a project leader in the Juvenile Home. Congratulations, Tori!

September's Employee of the Month
Monique Whyte is the September Employee of the Month! Monique is a Program Clerk for the Nurse Family Partnership Program at the Health Department. Monique recently took on a leadership role in the Health Department's transition to new data collection. This took hours finishing data entry that was required in a short amount of time, and continues this impressive work related to grant writing and continuing data collection needs. She says the best part of her job is her co-workers. She says, "They make me laugh daily, they
open my mind to new ideas and they help me grow as a person."
Read more from Monique and, again, we'd like to thank her for her service to the County.
