Directors/Coordinators of
Religious Education and the Catechumenate (RCIA)
Basic Leadership Training welcomes new parish catechetical leaders
On September 16,  the newest class in the Basic Leadership Training component of the Catechetical Leadership Program gathered at St. Augustine, Ossining, joining others who are working to complete this very important aspect of their ministry as directors and coordinators of religious education.
Being a director or coordinator of a parish religious education program is like being a school principal. It requires skills in organizing the program, gathering a professional group of catechists, overseeing the content of each class, and making sure that everyone is where he or she is supposed to be. This is in addition to serious administrative responsibilities such as child safety, building security and more.
Basic Leadership Training teaches directors and coordinators how to handle the myriad tasks they take on in order to hand on the faith with excellence.  Welcome to our new catechetical leaders, who attended this session.
The full schedule of Basic Leadership Training courses is here.

Lynch, STL, associate vicar for ecumenical and interreligious affairs for the Diocese of Brooklyn and pastor of Our Lady of the Cenacle Church, will discuss the pastoral steps for accompanying candidates on their journey to full communion. Dr. Donna Eschenauer, associate academic dean and professor of pastoral theology at St. Joseph Seminary, will give practical and pastoral suggestions for the Rite of Reception and the care of candidates in a parish setting.

There has been a rash of high profile hackings in the news lately.  Not only the Russians, but numerous groups have targeted businesses and hospitals around the world.  I have spoken with callers who have been the victim of computer scams or those who are unsure about whether their computer has been compromised.  There isn't much we can do to prevent the companies that we deal with from being hacked.  However, we can protect ourselves from the increasing incidence of scams by bad guys.
To help, I suggest reviewing this webpage Provided by the Department of Homeland Security, it describes how to spot a scam and what you can do to protect yourself and others.  I have added this page to our website resources under Computer and Online Resources. You may wish to share it with your assistant, ministry associates, family and friends.
I received this as a newsletter.  You can subscribe to newsletter to keep yourself up-to-date by clicking "Subscribe Me" at the bottom of the page.  Hope your online encounters are all good!
Guest columnist
Sr. Patricia McCarthy, CND, who writes a monthly column for Rhode Island Catholic, the diocesan publication for the Diocese of Providence, has long been an advocate for non-violence. Her column this month tells us that when anger, bigotry and extremism raise their ugly profiles - either physically or through on-line attacks -  there is a more moral and effective alternative. See her article here.
