Who would have believed that when we were making plans for 2020 that it would have turned out to be the year it is.
I grew up in Australia listening to my great grandparents and grandparents and parents talking about the wars of their time, the great depression, recessions and hard times of employment lockouts, droughts, fires and flooding rains. I am so glad that I listened. But never did I think that my privileged life would be affected in the same ways that theirs was.
Their stories come flooding back. They were stories of resilience, and pulling together, and helping out your mates.
We have seen this community support in Humboldt County. There have been great collaborations. People are working together. We are looking out for one another. We are reinventing our businesses and ways to support each other.
I am so proud to be doing what I am doing during this time. I am proud of our team. I so value the leadership and the direction
of our Board and Committees.
We have created an exciting annual membership magazine around our families and faces behind our local businesses that will be published early October. We have worked tirelessly to drive business to your websites, social media pages, phones and businesses. And we have not stopped creating new initiatives to support our local member businesses and economy.
This month we will be introducing you to
ARTBIZ, check out our website for more information on how you can be involved as a local artist and look forward to the opportunity to support both our local artists and the Chamber in coming months. We are grateful for the ArtBiz committee of Linda Wise, Rachel Schluter and Nancy Flemming who are passionate about supporting our local artists!
As elections are nearing, our Government Affairs committee has polled you our members for the burning questions you would like answered to better inform you as you VOTE this November 3rd. We have invited all candidates to answer 3 questions in video format and 3 questions in writing. We will email you the links to their answers, post them on our website and social media, and link to them in the October Newsletter. It is so very important for our community for you to not only VOTE but to understand what your vote stands for.
We are also excited to share with you that we are planning an exciting Annual Dinner and Membership Meeting. It’s going to have a different look and feel this year, but I promise you it will be fun!
