Opening Up: New MATC Healthcare Pathway Office Designed to Better Serve Students
Expanded space, increased privacy will help staff provide direction and boost retention and completion
Joe Tuttle sees the new Healthcare Academic and Career Pathway offices at Milwaukee Area Technical College as the safest of spaces.
In the glass-enclosed suite of rooms on the third floor of the H Building at the Downtown Milwaukee Campus, students can speak openly about any challenges they face, said Tuttle, a retention coach in the Healthcare Pathway.
And a few private, in-person moments with an advisor or coach can help them stay in school, finish a program or start a great career.
“This space is open and inviting but provides the privacy you need,” said Tuttle, who has been at MATC for 25 years. “The old space had cubicles. In a setup like that, you might not always get the whole story when you talk to students. This way, I feel conversations can be a little more genuine.”
Healthcare Pathway faculty and staff, college administrators, and MATC President Anthony Cruz celebrated the opening of the new Pathway office on Monday, August 18.
The college began transforming several classrooms and offices into the Pathway headquarters in December 2024 more...

September 9 | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Monthly Program
This fall, homeschoolers ages 8-14 are invited to let their imagination run wild, turning their creative ideas into compelling stories. Through guided instruction, creative writing prompts, and examples of pieces from local writers, students will explore the fundamentals of storytelling – culminating in a final short story to take home and share.
Programs are held monthly at The Tower Heritage Center from 10am-12pm on the second Tuesday of each month. Homeschoolers learn in a relaxed, hands-on setting inside of a historic building. These programs connect students to storytelling, creativity, and history – sparking curiosity.
Your homeschooler will:
- Learn the foundations of creative storytelling
- Practice building characters, settings & plots through fun activities
- Write a short story that will be printed and shared at the end of the unit
