Afghan Cuisine
Chef Qasim, a renowned restaurant owner from Afghanistan, loves making his specialty, steamed dumplings - an Afghan classic called "mantu".

Chef Malia
Somali Cuisine
Malia Hamza, a single mom of six, works as a caretaker and Tiyya Chef. Regardless of her obstacles, she keeps everyone around her laughing and inspired by her presence.

Chef Handullah
Syrian Cuisine
Handullah's dream of expanding his restaurant business was taken from him because of the war in Syria. In 2016, Handullah and his family of eight resettled in Orange County for a safer future.

Chef Liza
Afghan Cuisine
Chef Liza, a self-taught chef, hopes to open her own restaurant where she can cook mantu and bolani.

Iraqi Cuisine
Chef Noor enjoys learning about the catering business through Tiyya and hopes to open a restaurant soon.

Welcome New Projects Coordinator!
|
|
|
Kristen Ha graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a degree in International Studies and Comparative Literature. Her experience traveling and living abroad in Spain inspired her to seek a career in building international connections and global understanding. As Projects Coordinator, Kristen manages IVCLA visitor data and drafts programs for a variety of projects. Her favorite part of working at IVCLA is the ability to begin cultural dialogues and promote connections between Los Angeles and the rest of the world. In her free time, Kristen enjoys reading, traveling, painting and bullet journaling.
