The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners.

October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! Come to GMHS find your new furry best friend. You can view all of our available dogs here or visit our shelter Tuesday - Sunday from 12-5 PM.

Upcoming Events

The best part of Saturday, October 26th will be spending it in the good company of animal lovers like you at the GMHS annual Shuckin’ for Shelter Oyster Roast & BBQ. Tickets are $150 each, and are very limited, so purchase yours by calling 804-693-5520 or emailing.

Huge thanks to our friends at Oyster Cove Boatworks and Yacht Brokerage! During the month of September, they collected supplies for our homeless pets. We are grateful to Oyster Cove for hosting this food/supply drive, our community for giving so generously, and thank you to Scotty Signs for donating the banners!

Shelter Pet Spotlight - Levi

While Levi is shy at first, he is a perfect example of "don't judge a book by its cover." In his kennel, Levi appears closed off, but as soon as you get him outside, he opens up so much! Our team loves spending time with him outside taking him on walks, playing with him in the play yard, or just spending quality time with him! He seems to do well with other dogs, and maybe that is what he needs to feel more confident. Can you help us find Levi his forever family?!
