Quick updates from the Board, Committees, & Advocacy
September 2026
| | NAJIT’s Board of Directors continues to represent the association in professional spaces near and far, creating opportunities to connect with colleagues, strengthen relationships, and share NAJIT’s work with the broader interpreting and translating community. | NAJIT Chair Eliane Sfeir-Markus Delaware & Pennsylvania | In September, NAJIT Chair Eliane Sfeir-Markus represented NAJIT at two professional events. At the 2026 DVTA Summit, held at Widener University Delaware Law School, Eliane connected with interpreters and language professionals, shared NAJIT resources, and presented a session on the interpreter’s role in criminal cases. | Eliane Sfeir-Markus at the 2026 DVTA Summit, held at Widener University Delaware Law School. | |
Eliane also represented NAJIT at the opening of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania’s Court Interpreter Shadowing Program, an initiative that provides aspiring court interpreters with valuable courtroom observation and practical exposure to the judiciary.
Both events offered meaningful opportunities to strengthen relationships with regional organizations, courts, educators, and the next generation of judiciary interpreters and language access professionals.
| NAJIT Treasurer Jaqueline Nordin Aotearoa New Zealand | |
NAJIT Treasurer Jaqueline Nordin represented NAJIT at the NZSTI Conference in Aotearoa, New Zealand, where she presented The Tanden Method and connected with language professionals across professional borders.
The conference highlighted many shared conversations within the profession, including professional standards, working conditions, certification, technological change, and culturally responsive language services.

Committee Chairs Town Hall
On September 23, NAJIT’s Chair and Vice Chair hosted a Committee Chairs Town Hall, bringing committee leaders together to check in, share updates, and think through some of the work and priorities of the association.
Having our committee chairs together in one space also created an opportunity to hear different perspectives from across NAJIT and reflect on our shared vision for the association moving forward. The conversation was a reminder of how much stronger our work becomes when our committees are connected to one another and to the broader direction of NAJIT.
