Leaders Celebrating Clearwater's
Young Leaders at the Helm

Young Women Helm 2011

Clearwater's Youth Empowerment Programs recently wrapped up its Young Women and Young Men at the Helm programs this August sailing with youth from all over the Hudson Valley. Our youth empowerment programs are coming of age events for many young people. Every summer for the past ten years, Clearwater's Young Women at the Helm and Young Men at the Helm programs have taken youth on a journey on the Hudson River.

       Young Men Helm

Teens are charged with great responsibilities and encouraged to examine their own strengths in order to return to their communities prepared to lead others. The Hudson River and the sloop herself provide the perfect platform for physical, academic and emotional challenges that can help young people find their inner strength and appreciate teamwork. These Youth Empowerment Programs are truly a catalyst for positive change in the Hudson Valley.

To read more about the At the Helm programs, please click here to visit Clearwater's website and read Clearwater Onboard Education Specialist Tom O'Dowd's account of this summer's Young Men at the Helm session.

with Clearwater and Peekskill CAC

PeekskillCreek Clean Up

Westchester PepsiCo associates motivated to "go green and do the right thing," for our environment joined Clearwater staff,

Peekskill Conservation Advisory Council (CAC) members, and volunteers from Peekskill Youth Council for a stream clean up and rain barrel workshop in support of a clean and healthy Hudson River as part of the observation of World Water Week, August 21-27, 2011.

The Peekskill Creek Clean up took place on Wednesday, August 24 with volunteers collecting trash and removing invasive plant species along McGregory Brook, a Hudson River tributary that flows through the City of Peekskill, NY and into the river by the Peekskill train station.

Nina Sander, Clearwater Education Specialist, led a rain barrel construction and painting project.

Clearwater thanks Carol Capobianco and Pat Reber from Peekskill CAC for their help in organizing the event.
