September News from LPGM

Pictured Above: Sponsored students pose for a photo at Metpattambakam Boarding Home. The photo was taken while they were filming a video greeting for their sponsors. Student sponsorships are the heart of our partnership with the Arcot Lutheran Church (ALC) in Tamil Nadu, India. Sponsors provide access to education, lodging, nutritious food, healthcare, and more for Dalit students. Click the links below to watch greetings from students at Melpattambakam and Siloam.

Updates from LPGM

TODAY is Your Final Chance to Have Your Gift DOUBLED!

As extreme weather becomes more common - from drought and extreme heat in the dry season to more flooding in the rainy season -girls in Guatemala and Tanzania face intensified barriers to education

As a result, more girls are dropping out of school, and forced early marriage is on the rise.

At LPGM, we’ve created a new fund, “Advancing Access to Education,” to improve access to education for girls at the margins by removing barriers that get in their way, including the effects of extreme weather events.

Match Alert! Two former students of LPGM founder Gordon Olson and their parents believe so much in this work, that they will match your gift made by 9/30 (TODAY), up to $25,000!

Thank you if you have already made a gift to this fund. Your gift has been matched by these generous friends, doubling your impact!

Thank you for investing in education for girls at the margins.

Joy and Connection Filled LPGM's Recent Trip to Tanzania

Eleven travelers accompanied LPGM executive director Dan Ruth on a transformational trip to Tanzania from August 29-September 8.

The travelers visited Eripoto's safe house and spent time with Eripoto's founder, Esuvat Lukumay, and the girls living there. Esuvat showed travelers the site where the safe house addition is currently being built, which will allow more vulnerable girls to find safety and healing as they pursue an education.

Next, they visited two government schools where Mwangaza Education for Partnership leads peace clubs and trains teachers on positive classroom management techniques.

Other highlights included visits to a cultural heritage center, a Maasai village, and two national parks.

Check out the link below to see special moments from the trip -including elephant footage! If you missed this year's trip, you can travel with LPGM to Tanzania next September.

Interboarding Sports Meet

On August 30th, about 200 students from the Arcot Lutheran Church (ALC) boarding homes in Tamil Nadu gathered for a sports meet. Students enthusiastically participated and showed excellent sportsmanship.

They were awarded official medals and trophies at the end of the event. Special events like this are made possible by LPGM sponsors like you. Thank you for bringing joy to students' lives and giving them memories that will last a lifetime.

All About Kho kho

One of the games at the Interboarding Sports Meet was kho kho, a popular tag game in India. Many sponsored students say that kho kho is their favorite game, but you may wonder how it's played.

Kho kho is played on a rectangular court with a lane running down the middle of the court. There are two teams. The offensive team has nine players on the field: eight players crouching in the middle lane and one player chasing three runners from the defending team around the court.

The defenders try to avoid getting tagged by the chaser. The chaser can switch roles with a crouching teammate by touching them on the back while saying "Kho". There are two advantages of tagging in a new chaser: they can switch directions and cross the center line. These actions are not typically allowed.

Each team has two turns to score and two turns to defend. Each turn lasts nine minutes. The team that scores the most points by the end of the game wins.
