New 4-H Archery Club 
Informational Meeting
Monday, September 11

Ages 9 and older

A NEW 4-H Archery Club will be starting in Sept. for youth ages 9 and older. The Informational/Organizational meeting will be on Monday, Sept 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Harris Family Farm. Parents and youth should attend the meeting together. 

At the September meeting, you can learn more about 4-H, the 4-H shooting sports program, and meet the club leaders. We will discuss plans for the club and a regular meeting time.Most 4-H clubs meet monthly with the meetings including a short business meeting and a program. For this club, the programs will focus on archery, shooting safety, and related topics.
 
This club will be led by Evan Harris, who is a senior high school student, and has been an award winner at the National 4-H Shooting Sports contest. Karen and Tim Harris, his parents, will be assisting and overseeing the club.
 
If you plan to attend the meeting and/or have an interest in the club, please email donna_mull@ncsu.edu so we can get an idea about the number to expect and ages of children. If you have questions, call the Extension Office at  828-465-8240.

Advanced Gardener Program - Photo Competition


Have the Advanced Gardener presentations at the library helped you start or expand your vegetable garden?

If so, send me your best picture and you will be entered into the 2017 Advanced Gardener Photo Competition.  

Include a few sentences about how much food you got from the garden and how the presentations might have helped you.

Winning photos will be selected on:
- photo's ability to  display food production
- creativity
- entertainment quality
- uniqueness of concept

All photos will be used to help us promote more gardening programs in Catawba County - your photos will inspire others!

Seriously good prizes for the top 5 winners!  Entry deadline is Oct 31, 2017.

All entries must include a signed photo release form.

NCDA&CS offers organic certification cost-share assistance

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA & CS) is offering organic growers the opportunity to recoup up to $750 of their certification cost. Growers must have been certified between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016 and complete an application available at  www.ncdaorganic.org .

USDA Low Interest Loans For Storage Facilities

The Farm Storage Facility Loan Program provides low-interest financing so producers can build or upgrade permanent facilities to store commodities. Eligible commodities include grains, oilseeds, peanuts, pulse crops, hay, honey, renewable biomass commodities, fruits and vegetables. Eligible facility types include grain bins, hay barns and facilities for cold storage.
