Good Afternoon! Welcome to the second volume of the Family Business Newsletter, for the academic year of 2018-2019! We hope that your student, and you, are adjusting well to FGCU this semester. In this months newsletter, we have a lot of important information for you and your student to go over! There are a lot of events happening on campus, so make sure your student is taking advantage of multiple ways to get involved.

We have been in school now for nearly a month, and it has flown by! Make sure you are encouraging your student to ensure they are balancing their social and academic life. With so many things going on these first few weeks, it is important for your student to verify that they are staying on top of their academic responsibilities. There are numerous campus resources to help students succeed academically and midterm exams will be here before you know it!

Important Financial Aid Information

Financial Aid for the 2019-2020 Academic Year

Beginning October 1, 2018 students will be able to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and complete the FGCU Foundation Scholarship Application for the 2019-2020 school year.

Students and parents can simplify the FAFSA by retrieving their 2017 tax return data directly from the IRS using the data retrieval tool. Using the data retrieval tool is the easiest way to provide your tax information and is the best way of ensuring that your FAFSA has accurate tax return information. By filing this application, you are applying for federal and state grants, college Work Study, and student loans. Go to www.fafsa.gov to complete your application.

FGCU Foundation scholarships are awarded annually on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, major of study and/or other specifications set by donors. All current students should apply for FGCU Foundation scholarships. Completing a FAFSA form is not required to be eligible for FGCU Foundation scholarships; however, it is highly recommended to complete a FAFSA annually in order to maximize all need-based financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Students are encouraged to complete their applications early. Students who apply by January 1st will be given priority.

Eagles in 22

D on’t forget to remind your student to kick start their time at FGCU by participating in the Eagles in 22 program! Follow the easy steps below to qualify for prizes!

Step 1: Sign up at fgcu.edu/Eaglesin22

Step 2. Complete the 6 required activities and 16 additional activities.

Step 3 . Celebrate with the class of ’22 and compete to win some awesome prizes!

Has your student met with their advisor yet?

Students have until October 5th to attend a New Student Meeting with Exploratory Advising. This is one of two required meetings that must be completed in order to register for spring semester classes.

Encourage your student to sign up now by using the link they received in their Eagle Email account.

Students can apply to be part of Eagle View Orientation!

Most Outstanding Family Member Award

We have started a new tradition here at FGCU! This year we created an award called the Most Outstanding Family Member award. The award will be given out during Eagle Family Weekend, at the BBQ event, by President Martin. The award is to recognize family member(s) of students who have made a significant impact in the student's journey. Applications must be filled out by students, emailed to [email protected], and submitted by Oct. 1st at 5:00 pm. Please encourage your student to nominate a family member that has been influential in their journey. The winner will receive a free hotel stay for Family Weekend, free Family Weekend registration, and more.

The office of Career Services is hosting a Career and Internship Expo! Encourage your student's to stop by and meet local employers. It is never too early to build a professional network for their future!
