Parent Resources & Updates
Early Intervention Program Update
Roscoe Village
The toddlers have been busy learning about fruit vocabulary while making orange playdough, painting paper strawberries with yummy strawberry juice, eating and painting with applesauce, reading "Strawberries Are Red", and pretending to work at a fruit stand. Parents/caregivers have been practicing the valuable strategy of wait time to encourage their toddler to use words more independently.

In addition, two new students to our toddler groups were welcomed this past month.

Wood Dale
The toddler groups are FULL  all five days of the week!  We also have five kiddos turning three before the end of the year.

The group is looking forward to visiting the pumpkin farm on October 10th.

We are still waiting  to hear on our grant proposal for examining the relationship between type of service and speech and language outcomes as well.

Lovin' Literacy -
Selecting Books For Your Child
Calling all readers! We are ready to kick off another year of Lovin' Literacy! We have a lot of exciting things coming up this fall that include Scholastic Book Club orders, the BOOK IT reading program and a Book Fair.  Stayed tuned for more details...

The BOOK IT reading program will officially launch on October 1st.  Students are encouraged to read at least 10 minutes
a day and track their reading minutes on the calendar provided.  Have your child color in the calendar each day they read.  This will motivate them to read more!  Each month we will have a "Star Reader" who gets to wear a special super hero cape at school if they read the most minutes. Our goal is to get 100% participation!

"The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children." -Jim Trelease

"When you read to a child, you leap into the rare words that help most when it's time for school and formal learning." -Jim Trelease

"The more you read, the more things you will know.  The more you learn, the more places you'll go!" -Dr. Seuss

Audiology Program Update
ADHEAR has Plenty to Offer
ADHEAR is a non-surgical hearing solution that makes it possible for you to use the system and benefit immediately from better hearing. A DHEAR is the only non-surgical bone conduction device that does not apply pressure onto the skin and is therefore very comfortable to wear.

The sound waves are transmitted onto the bone via the adhesive adapter which is placed on the skin behind the ear.   The adhesive adapter is very light and discreet. To find out more about how ADHEAR works, please Click Here.

Social Work Corner
Hello Parents!   Last year, we mentioned that the PBIS team discovered a need for the team to provide opportunities for families to receive training on behavioral support/positive parenting strategies, specifically creating social stories for families. Thanks to Robyn Cox, our Discovery Center teacher, we now have a tutorial on how to create your own. Click here to access Robyn's tutorial.
