Hats off to our most recent Research Launch Awardees!
All 32 of them! The Office of Research began issuing the Research Launch Award—a $2,500 incentive for new faculty researchers—in 2018, and the popularity of the program continues to grow. Last spring and summer we issued a whopping 32 awards, bringing the total over the life of the program to 87.

Forty-four new UC faculty members attended the research portion of Faculty Orientation last month.
We want to give them a special shout-out in a feature this month and welcome them to the Bearcat research team! Our continued growth as a leading research institution is imperative if we are to break into the top 25 public research universities, one of our Research2030 goals.
This research orientation is open to all faculty in the spring semester.

Wanted: Future experts in space discovery, exploration
From the Dayton bicyclists, the Wright Brothers, to spacefaring pioneers, John Glenn and Neil Armstrong, Ohio has always been at the forefront of aviation, aerospace and space exploration. At the University of Cincinnati Space Research Institute for Discovery and Exploration, we aim to use the knowledge and competencies of our faculty, students and partners to continue Ohio's extensive legacy of contributions to aviation and spaceflight.
The Space Research Institute for Discovery and Exploration supports innovative research and one of its prime directives is to support Bearcat students interested in these fields and foster growth in the career paths aligned with our regional and national interests to discover and explore our universe with an emphasis on space travel and habitation.
Therefore, the institute has established two fellowship programs, one for undergraduates and one for graduate students. The application period for these fellowships is open until Sept. 30 and will be awarded in January 2022.

Meet the OoR's new cybersecurity specialist, Laura Elkin
After several years working on cybersecurity issues for private companies and government organizations, UC has hired Laura Elkin to help Bearcat researchers across all our colleges and campuses with their NIST 800-171 and other related research security needs and questions.
With certifications in information systems, project management and security management, Elkin can help decipher regulatory requirements and provide researchers of all stripes with the tools needed to keep their research secure and ethically maintained. It will be that much easier to reach our Research2030 goals with Elkin on our team!
“This becomes more and more important as we move into our Digital Future and have so much digital information,” Elkin says. “It’s about securing data so that our research and collaborations with our research partners are safe and secure.” Anyone with research cybersecurity questions is invited to email Elkin directly at elkinle@ucmail.uc.edu.
