Head to the Coast to Cleanup

The date is set for the 39th Annual International Coastal Cleanup in Broward County on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 9am to 12pm! There are cleanup sites all along the coast. Plastic pollution is a massive problem for our ocean, but even small actions can make a big difference. Every bottle, every straw, every piece of trash you clean up can lead to a cleaner, healthier ocean.

Community Cleanups are a Humble Act

Sunrise groups embrace the simple yet powerful act of cleaning up litter in our community.

Litter, particularly plastic waste, threatens the health and beauty of South Florida by endangering wildlife and disturbing fragile ecosystems and waterways.

But there are even more compelling reasons why picking up litter is a small but mighty endeavor:

  • Every discarded piece of trash removed, every cigarette butt collected, is a step toward preserving the pristine beauty of our community.
  • As you clear litter from City streets you witness a tangible transformation of the natural environment - instant eco gratification.
  • Getting outside, walking, and bending down to retrieve discarded items and disposing of them can sharpen motor skills and boost dexterity!
  • Litter cleanup is an invitation to get outside which can help reduces stress, enhance our mood, and nurture our overall well-being.
  • Picking up litter out in the community sets an example for others, including our children. As we join together in this shared mission, we build stronger bonds within our neighbors, united by a common purpose.
