Tic, Toc....
The weather here in the Shenandoah Valley may still be summerlike, but the calendar tells us otherwise: September has arrived, and with it all of the changes in rhythm and routine that characterize this time of year.
Our “September Song,” however, is anything but bittersweet. It’s filled with the glow of a wonderful 20th Anniverasry summer of music, learning, and laughter, and packed houses...attending more than 50 public performances!
One patron told us it was "the crescendo in Happy Major to successive standing ovations. The positive ambiance and inventive programs. Details that personalized and gave smiles. The vibrant enthusiasm of gifted youth, which we are invited to share. In the velocity in this magical whirlwind of musical beauty, there is the sense of belonging; that Heifetz is at home.”
Wonderful, touching words. But we’re not quite all the way home. This month we officially close the books on our 2016 season, and we can’t take a final bow for this magical 20th Anniversary summer until the final Fiscal Year curtain comes down. Only then we will we be secure in the knowledge that “Heifetz is at home.”
We can’t do it without you. Each and every dollar you contribute is both gratefully appreciated and a vital investment in Daniel Heifetz’ vision that that great classical music played by some of the world’s finest young musicians truly can “Communicate – Engage – Inspire.” Please click here too see the many ways you can help the Heifetz Institute, and thank you for your support!

Competition News & Coups:
Heifetz alums nab big prizes
Congrats to two of our shining Heifetz Institute alums for some outstanding achievements on the international competition circuit. This week, 17-year old cellist Zlatomir Fung, a 2016 Artist in Residence and a 2013 Heifetz student, won the top cello prize at the George Enescu International Competition in Bucharest, Rumania. According to The Strad, "The American’s performance of Enescu’s Symphonie Concertante with the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Alexandre Bloch, was greeted with a standing ovation and earned him the €15,000 (about $17,000) first prize. It was the first time the piece had been performed in the history of the competition." Check out this standing-ovation Sunday Matinee performance of Zlatomir and pianist Stefan Petrov playing Schubert!
Congrats as well to 2016 student Ji-Won Song, who reached the semifinal round of the first-ever Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition. Ji-Won walked away with the $10,000 prize for the best performance of The Butterfly Lovers concerto, mandatory for all entrants in the competition. Ji-Won tuned up for playing the famous Chinese concerto on the Shanghai stage by previewing it last summer in Staunton. Check out this video of Ji-Won's mesmerizing performance with pianist Beilin Han - herself a graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory!
