Romans 12:2 ESV “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

I was reading through Romans a while back, and stumbled upon this verse. It struck me, and I had to sit for a minute. It might not be what was originally intended, but “Do not be conformed to this world” made me think about how often we seem to be swept away by what the world wants to offer. Whether that be social media, or being distracted from going to small group by a TV show, or even skipping out on the verse of the day because you're too busy. It can be anything, and in my case, a lot of times it’s a camera.

Let me explain- I’m in the marketing department at CranHill, and I’m often behind a camera taking pictures of the memories and smiles people have while they’re here. And it's a fun job! I love taking pictures and preserving memories for families.

But sometimes, it’s terribly lonely behind a camera. Every time you go out to take photos, there's a barrier between you, and the moment you're capturing. You're not a part of it. (I like to describe it as having a love-hate relationship with my camera). It's times like that, when I set my camera down and make time to actually live in those moments. Now I can’t always do that in my job, but in my free time, or when I’m with my family, I can put down the camera and be with them.

Reading that verse, all I could think about was how sometimes, that’s what our relationship with God feels like. You can get so caught up in the things that don’t matter, that you don’t live in the moment with Him. So I challenge you to take that time! Set down what’s making that barrier between you and the Lord, and live in the moment with Him. Feel the joy of a cool breeze and thank God for it, smell the roses & look at what God has done for you.
