Missouri Department of Social Services Announces Updates to SNAP Verification Requirements Starting October 1.

The Missouri Department of Social Services-Family Support Division (DSS-FSD) recently announced Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) applicants will now be required to provide documented proof for specific expenses and resources, rather than relying solely on self-attesting statements.

Starting October 1, documented proof will be required for:

  • Shelter costs, such as rent, mortgage, and utilities
  • Dependent care or childcare expenses
  • Countable resources, such as money in a bank account

These updates to the verification requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be effective October 1, 2026 and are intended to strengthen program integrity and ensure accurate eligibility decisions.

No immediate action is required for individuals currently receiving SNAP. View the full release online.
