Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

September is here, marking the close of summer and the beginning of a new season. In the Catholic Church, this month is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, a devotion rooted in the prophecy of Simeon, who foretold that a sword would pierce Mary's heart—a sorrow she would carry throughout her life, especially at the foot of the Cross. September also brings a host of important Catholic feast days, including:

  • St. Gregory the Great – Sept. 3
  • St. Teresa of Calcutta – Sept. 5
  • Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Sept. 8
  • Exaltation of the Holy Cross – Sept. 14
  • Our Lady of Sorrows – Sept. 15
  • St. Padre Pio – Sept. 23
  • Feast of the Archangels: Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael – Sept. 29

In this edition, we hope you’ll discover new ways to celebrate these beloved feasts with your family, friends, and parish community.

Looking ahead, we also anticipate Priesthood Sunday, celebrated this year on September 28 in the United States. This is a special day to reflect on the gift of the priesthood and its central role in the life of the Church. Let us take the time to thank, honor, and pray for our bishop, pastors, and priests—both in our diocese and beyond—for their faithful service.

We invite you to let us know how we can better support you and your parish in our shared mission of evangelization—to bring people into an encounter with Christ and to deepen appreciation of our Catholic faith.

May God’s mercy and peace be with you and your family this September and always.

For Young Adults .... Events and Resources

Visit our Diocese's Events page for upcoming local events, Holy Hours, and masses. On this page, you will find submitted events occurring in the five counties of the Diocese of Palm Beach. Events listed are hosted by a diocesan ministry or office, a school, or a parish. This is a good resource for finding fellowship or special activities.

This Novena to Our Lady of Sorrows devotion includes prayers honoring each of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Our Lady of Sorrows, also known as Mater Dolorosa, is a title given to our Blessed Mother and focuses on Mary’s profound suffering and grief during the seven painful events she endured during her life as the mother of Jesus: (1.) the Prophecy of Simeon, (2.) the Flight into Egypt, (3.) the Loss of Jesus in the Temple, (4.) Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary, (5.) the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus, (6.) the Piercing of Jesus’ Side and the Taking Down of His Body from the Cross, and (7.) the Burial of Jesus.

We believe that it all starts with the family, the domestic church.

Our goal in the Office of Marriage, Family Life, Faith Formation and Youth & Young Adult Ministry (MFLFFYM for short!) is to support parishes, parents & families in their journey of faith as they live out their God-given call with others.

September 5 is the Feast of

St. Teresa of Calcutta

Saint Mother Teresa established the Missionaries of Charity who cared for people who were poor, hungry, sick, and even dying. She is a symbol of love and charity. She said, " If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” On this very special feast day, plan on going to the store or dollar store with your worksheet provided and make bags of blessings for the homeless with your family.

5 Simple Ways to Celebrate the Feasts of the Archangels

Throughout scriptures, there are many mentions of angels, but only three are named - Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. These three angels are referred to as the Archangels. Their feast day is celebrated each year on September 29th.

Each of the archangels plays a special role in the scriptures: Saint Michael protects, Saint Gabriel announces good news and Saint Raphael heals. The archangels show us God's protection, guidance and communication.

We're sharing five simple ways to celebrate the Archangels!

Teaching the little ones about the Saints

Feast Day of St. Padre Pio

September 23

The Holy Spirit is incredibly helpful when it comes to nudging us towards the Saints that will help strengthen our Catholic faith. Enjoy this blog from Lisa Burek, wife and mother of three from Southeast Michigan. Lisa shares simple and creative ways to teach children about this beloved saint.

“For this reason, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one. So, they are no longer two but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.”

Mark 10:7-9

The Office of Marriage, Family Life, Faith Formation & Youth Ministry (MFLFFYM) is here to encourage couples at all stages of life to understand and live God’s plan for a happy, holy marriage by providing educational and spiritual resources.

Marriage Tune-Up

34 couples gathered Aug. 23-24, 2025, for a Marriage Tune-Up weekend at Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Center in North Palm Beach. Spouses from throughout the diocese gained insights on how to improve their marriages. The presenters Dan and Nancy Fioramonti, talked about ways to communicate better. The next Marriage Tune-Up is set for February 2026.
