August has come to an end and we can start looking forward to cooler weather and the magnificent changing of the leaves. Labor Day marked the official close of our recreation season but we'll have one more bonus beach weekend this week! Today, we’ll reflect on the roll out of the first Riddle Point Park Cruise-In, check in on the dredging project, collect interest on private dredging, and look forward to more events at Lake Lemon!

Manager's Minute

While Labor day weekend marks the waning of the summer recreation season there is much to be thankful for and to reflect on. In 2018 the LLCD contracted with Shrewsberry environmental firm to develop conceptual designs for the Lake Lemon Sediment Mitigation project. It has been a long road since that date with ongoing studies, consultant reviews, permit applications and arduous project management. But as this years dredging project wraps up, we will have reclaimed nearly 80 acres of lake lemon to safe boating depths, removed over 250,000 cubic yards of material, and will soon be awarding a contract for the creation of a 17 acre constructed wetland. You read that right, over a quarter million yards of sediment removed. A feat unimaginable in the years of mechanical dredging when 10,000 yards was considered a good year. To everyone that has had a hand in this accomplishment, and the freeholders who have entrusted us to manage this beautiful resource, Thank You! LLCD Staff and myself are greatly looking forward to a well deserved winter time breather. However, our work does not stop in the off season. Our focus will now shift to planning and laying the ground work for future maintenance projects, government reporting, budgeting, and setting ourselves up for success in the 2025 season.

On a personal note, I am greatly looking forward to the changing of the leaves, fall pontoon cruises in hoodies, and the transition from lake/dredging operations to office work. I hope everyone has a great fall!

As always, it is a pleasure to serve!

2024 Cruise-In Recap

We are extending an earnest thanks to everyone who joined us for the very first official Lake Lemon Riddle Point Park Cruise-In! Your presence truly made it a lovely evening. With over 40 vehicles, the beautifully restored classics were a sight to behold. The calm evening atmosphere by the lake only added to the magic, and we couldn't have asked for better company. We’re already looking forward to planning more of these events in the future, and we can't wait to see you all there again!

Reminder - Active Dredging

The 2024 LLCD paid dredging project will be wrapping up this week. Dredge America is planning to have a bathymetric survey done on September 10th. The results of the survey will be sent to the LLCD's engineering firm to verify yardage for final payments. Dredging will likely continue next week, via a private contract, in the Salmon Harbor Bay (east side of Ellis Point). The location of the pipeline and dredge will very greatly on a day-to-day basis for the next two weeks. We ask you to take extra precautions as the barge and pipeline move around to finish up the contracted work.
