Kinesiology has partnered with MSU Extension for the SPartner Trial. This is a transnational research program looking at web based interactive education with LSSU student mentors to increase physical activity in 5th graders. It will introduce field-based research to students, provide curriculum for local schools, and generate $2000 in lab equipment for the Exercise Performance Lab (EPL) Kinesiology has been conducting performance testing using the EPL for our hockey team. This program is in its fifth year.
The Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) has accredited the BS Electrical Engineering Technology, and the BS Manufacturing Engineering Technology programs through September 2023.
Fire Science and Emergency Services recently received a donated fire truck for LSSU Student use.
Biology professor Dr. Barbara Evans secured a USDA-National Institute of Food and Agriculture project entitled "Educating a Workforce for the Aquaculture Industry: Matching Skill Needs of the Aquaculture Industry with US Career and Technical Education." Total funding for this grant is $188,036. The grant extends the Youth Education in Aquaculture project with $78,596 dedicated to LSSU activities; $45,440 to Iowa State, and $64,000 to UW Steven's Point.

Kiffen Smallegan '17 was accepted into the Air Force Nurse Internship program. He was selected from over 350 applicants for 40 slots. His goal is to become a flight nurse.
Shyla Jones '08, is a licensed patent attorney who recently joined
Ice Miller Intellectual Property Group specializing in global brand management, protection and enforcement matters including trademarks, copyrights, design patents, trade secrets, franchise and licensing.
Adam Truckey '06 created a "Leelanau-Keep it Clean" decal and is donating the profits to the Friends of the Sleeping Bear Dunes.

PV2 Justin Kelly, PV2 Brendan Westenbarger, and PV2 Chris Cousin recently completed Army basic training with the 31st Engineer Battalion. They left for Ft. Leonard Wood after Spring semester this year and returned to LSSU this Fall.

Berchem (Nursing) and Dr. Ashley Moerke (Biology) collaborated on a recent study abroad trip to New Zealand. Students studied endemic species and their habitats, indigenous Maori health practices and New Zealand approaches to issu
es of environmental health using natural systems. The students combined the themes of health, biology, culture and ecology to give back, regenerating rainforests & helping create a health initiative called a Recovery Garden.
