Antique Sapphire Ring Restoration |
|
A ring handed down through generations, and estimated to be 100 years old, had seen better days when this client brought it to Diamonds On The Key for evaluation. The client's mother, who
suffered from arthritis, had worn it daily for decades and through clenching her hands over and over, the original delicate filigree designed ring had become "cracked" in several areas, with the entire mounting badly bent to one side, causing the sapphire to become very loose in its halo setting. Skilled artisans worked to create an identical ring mold, carved by hand from wax and
cast in 18 karat gold. The original platinum and diamond lattice work and center diamond halo elements were gently carved away and removed by hand from the old setting and "fused" onto the new sturdy ring mounting. The sapphire was cradled much more securely in a thick halo, with under gallery work to hold it in place. The end result was a near identical ring, which the client can now enjoy and wear daily, without the worry of further damage to the ring.

Diamond Circle Pendant - Never fully enjoying a circular pendant that was improperly custom made by another jeweler, this client sought out advice from Diamonds On The Key on how to improve the design. The pointed culet of the main round diamond was extremely sharp and constantly scratched the skin of her throat when worn, and thus the pendant was worn on few occasions. After evaluating the overall structure of the pendant and taking several measurements of the main diamond, it was determined that a new thicker profile, gold backing needed to be custom designed in the same circular diameter, and soldered to the back side of the pendant, in order to compensate for the overall depth of the main diamond, and to prevent the sharp culet from touching her skin.
Additionally, two extra gemstone circles in the pendant, which had a red, white + green "Christmas feel", where deemed "too busy" and detracted from the beauty of the main diamond. The gemstone circles were gently removed from the pendant, with posts + push backings added, to create a pair of new earrings for the client's daughter. The original cable chain was permanently repositioned and attached to the outer corners of the round pendant, to prevent it from twisting and flipping over.
The end result was a more streamlined and modern pendant, which put full emphasis on the impressive size main diamond, while making the pendant now comfortable to enjoy and wear every day!
