Your Member Liaison | P: 515-450-3414 | E:
As a board, this month we voted to hold dues steady for next year. There will be NO increase in membership dues for 2021. We know the challenges you are facing and we believe this is an important step in these difficult times.

Your board met this month in coordination with our annual Fall Golf Classic. If you have not participated in an ABC event like this, I really want to encourage you to take a look at fitting it into your schedule. It’s helpful in meeting new members, getting to know ABC of Iowa staff better and coordinating with other members who share the same values.
(L to R): Board Members Shane Kline of Kline Electric, (also Chair of the Board of Trustees), Jim Ellis of Price Electric, and Jim Higley of Interstates, received honors during the PAC Drive for most employee donations, new member donations, highest percentage of goal and highest total number of donations.
As you probably know, board members have been reaching out all summer asking for donations to our PAC. ABC of Iowa is the watchdog for protecting merit-shop contractors from discrimination in public job bidding. Our member-led Government Affairs Council helps elect more pro-merit shop candidates to state office through our PAC. With your contributions we can defend our position in Iowa and ensure that your business interests are protected. If you have not had the opportunity to contribute yet but would like to, please reach out to me directly.

Education across the globe has changed in light of the recent pandemic, and our program is no different. The Board of Trustees believes ABC of Iowa apprentices are best served if they are provided in-person, safe, instruction. As such, there will be new COVID-19 protocols that will help us achieve those goals. It is going to take all of us - the Board of Trustees, ABC staff, employers, instructors and apprentices - working together in unison to have a safe and successful year.

Please reach out to Ginny or the education team if you have any questions or concerns.
More information will be coming soon from the education team.

Thank you to all of the members who attended our golf event this month. We had more than 125 golfers and it was great to be together (socially distant, of course) to network, meet new members and connect with old friends.

There are a few more chances for you to participate in our great events this year including an After Business Cocktails event in Sioux City and Sporting Clay Events that support our PAC. You can find more information and how to register here.
In an effort to recruit new members, we have created a brochure that showcases all the great services and benefits being an ABC of Iowa member. You may view the PDF version here or let Jared know and he will mail you a stack to hand out to potential members.

National Safety Stand-Down
Sept. 14 – 18 marked the National Safety Stand-Down. Did your company participate in this event? We’d like to feature your member involvement on our social channels - please send any information to Rich.
Timely Safety Updates - Join the List
We are creating a safety email list – this will be our Safety Department’s direct link to members, providing constant updates, information on safety-related events and much more. If you would like to have someone on your staff included on this email list, please let Rich know.
Wanted: Your Feedback
Federal OSHA is looking to change the Powered Industrial Trucks regulations, which includes forklifts. As part of our Alliance with Iowa OSHA, we are seeking information to provide feedback as to how changes in regulations may affect companies.

The survey is anonymous, no company-identifying information will be collected or shared. Provide your feedback by taking the survey, here!

Careers in Construction Month
October is Careers in Construction Month, and this year, ABC of Iowa wants to recognize the people who make up our diverse workforce. We know everyone has a unique story that brought them to a career in construction, and we want to share them!

If you're interested in sharing, please email Michelle with your name, a few sentences from them about your journey to the construction industry, company, job title and a professional headshot or action shot on a construction jobsite.
If you're not sure where to begin, below are some questions to consider:
  1. What interested you about the construction industry?
  2. How did you get involved with the construction industry?
  3. What types of educational programs made you want to pursue a career in construction?
  4. What’s something about the construction industry most people don’t know about that you find interesting or exciting?
  5. How did construction help you become the person you are today? How did it positively impact your life?
  6. What advice do you have for people who are considering a career in construction?
  7. What made you want to teach construction?
