New Jersey’s Gubernatorial race begins to heat up
Democrat candidate Mikie Sherrill and Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli begin to ramp up campaigns heading toward the November 4th election day. They will have opportunities to make their cases in upcoming debates; the first is scheduled for Sept. 21st, 7 p.m. in Rider’s Alumni Gym in a town hall-style event. Vote-by-mail ballots go out the next day, with the final debate occurring on October 8th.
Both candidates have been getting endorsements. The Democratic mayor of a Bergen County city switched his party affiliation and endorsed Republican Jack Ciattarelli for governor. “I’m asking Republicans, Democrats, independents alike, to stand with me in supporting Jack Ciattarelli for governor,” said Garfield Mayor Everett Garnto, a former law enforcement official who was first elected to the nonpartisan council in 2024, at a rally, where he praised Ciattarelli’s affordability plans and support of law enforcement.
