NJ Legislative Update

New Jersey’s Gubernatorial race begins to heat up

Democrat candidate Mikie Sherrill and Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli begin to ramp up campaigns heading toward the November 4th election day. They will have opportunities to make their cases in upcoming debates; the first is scheduled for Sept. 21st, 7 p.m. in Rider’s Alumni Gym in a town hall-style event. Vote-by-mail ballots go out the next day, with the final debate occurring on October 8th.

Both candidates have been getting endorsements. The Democratic mayor of a Bergen County city switched his party affiliation and endorsed Republican Jack Ciattarelli for governor. “I’m asking Republicans, Democrats, independents alike, to stand with me in supporting Jack Ciattarelli for governor,” said Garfield Mayor Everett Garnto, a former law enforcement official who was first elected to the nonpartisan council in 2024, at a rally, where he praised Ciattarelli’s affordability plans and support of law enforcement.

Member Status Updates

Changing from standard to retired status:

  • Members email memserv@nspe.org and ask to have their profile evaluated for this. (Learn more here.)
  • Once approved, at the next renewal cycle, membership dues are reduced by half.
  • Retired members maintain access to all NSPE benefits.

"What's in it for them" (value of continuing as a retired member):

  • Stay connected to the engineering community you've helped sustain throughout your career.
  • "Pay it forward" to younger NSPE members and future engineers while promoting public HSW by serving as a mentor; chapter/state/national leader and volunteer; liaison with key stakeholders (i.e. engineering schools, legislators, licensure board, local media); supporter of scholarships and education foundations; golf fundraiser organizer; and more!

We also offer a lifetime member status with $0 annual dues and continued access to all benefits. Members would email memserv@nspe.org to have their profile evaluated. The possibilities are endless with this group, too, about how to keep them involved in the engineering community.

NSPE offers something to everyone in the engineering community, no matter where they are in their career. Together, let's help them connect with the right opportunities at the right time.

Enroll in the Enterprise program

Enterprise membership allows a company to sponsor NSPE membership for multiple employee engineers and to design specialized benefits around their needs. Through the Enterprise program, NSPE will develop a package option perfectly suited to your organization.

Why should your company enroll its engineers in NSPE?

  • NSPE membership is an employment benefit that will help you hire and keep the best engineers a real competitive edge for your company.
  • By joining NSPE at a corporate level, your clients will recognize your company's commitment to engineering and ethical best practices, and will trust that your engineers will provide them with the best service available.
  • Your employees will recognize your commitment to their professional growth, and will remain loyal and engaged.
  • Employees will benefit from maximum access, value and convenience in everything NSPE membership has to offer.
  • Your company may also be able to save on its professional liability premiums. Through NSPE benefit partner Victor, qualifying engineering firms are eligible for an underwriting premium credit of up to 5% if at least 50% of the firm's professional staff are NSPE members.
