Emma, Our Ray of Sunshine!
Eight-year-old Emma is a true ray of sunshine in the Miracle League. With her bright smile and joyful spirit, she lights up every room she enters. Emma loves being in the spotlight, which is why she adores the buddy system at Miracle League. Although she can be soft-spoken, she’s finding her voice! Once she’s comfortable, she loves to chat and isn’t shy about making new friends.
Emma has a rare genetic disorder called KMT5B Related Syndrome, with fewer than 50 known cases worldwide. This gene plays a critical role in brain development; Emma’s condition is the result of a spontaneous mutation and was not inherited. Due to this disorder, Emma experiences hypotonia (low muscle tone), global developmental delays, and is autistic.
This fall, Emma began 3rd grade in a program that is both supportive and very inclusive. She’s in a special day class with opportunities to join mainstream classes supported by an aide where possible. Emma absolutely loves school and is thriving in this environment.
Outside of school, Emma enjoys spending time with her brother, Jackson, and indulging in her favorite hobbies—dancing and swimming. Recently, she started therapeutic horseback riding at Full Stride Therapeutic, and the progress has been remarkable. Emma’s balance has improved, her core muscles have strengthened, and most importantly, her self-esteem has blossomed. Her school therapists have also noticed the positive changes.
While Emma may not be the biggest baseball fan, she treasures her time at the Miracle League. For her, it’s all about the cheers from the crowd and the special bond she forms with her buddy on the field. The Miracle League is more than just a game for Emma—it’s a place where she can shine.
We’re so proud of Emma and can’t wait to see all the amazing things she’ll continue to achieve!
