Calling for 2020 Living Legends Nominations: September 30th Deadline!

Because so many people go unrecognized who contribute to the betterment of the City of Alexandria, now is the time to shine a light on them. Although many potential Legends may prefer to keep a low-profile, acknowledging their accomplishments will inspire others to follow in their footsteps, which is a key component of Living Legends' mission.

So please do YOUR part by identifying community supporters who may qualify as a Living Legend for 2020. Submit a nomination (or 2!) for a 2020 Living Legend no later than midnight, October 15, 2019, making sure that they meet the following criteria:
  • The Nominee has led the creation of something new or the redevelopment of something established that has significantly and positively impacted the quality of life in the City of Alexandria and inspires others; and/or
  • The Nominee has demonstrated noteworthy, substantial, sustained, and inspirational contributions that have significantly and positively impacted quality of life in the City of Alexandria, through a significant period of years of service in leadership and/or project management roles, including on boards, commissions, and committees.

Remember to submit all applications by October 15th. You can get nomination forms in City Hall's Market Square Lobby, from any board member, and on Living Legends' website at https://alexandrialegends.org/nominations-form/ , which either may be downloaded or completed online.

African American Living Legends at Black History Museum

In partnership with Living Legends of Alexandria, the Alexandria Black History Museum and its Director, Audrey Davis, also a Living Legends board member, incorporated an exhibit of black Living Legends' portraits into the museum's July 21st-August 10th celebration of African American activists. This collaboration was highlighted by a reception on July 21st that was attended by almost 200 people, among which were numerous dignitaries that included several Living Legends, Living Legends' founder and 2015 Living Legend Nina Tisara, state Delegate Mark Levine, and Alexandria council member John Chapman. Sponsors who made this reception possible were Glory Days Grill (Alexandria Commons), The Royal Restaurant , Dishes of India , Manumission Tour Company , National Council of Negro Women , The Enchanted Florist , and Joyous Events .

Christmas in September?

No, but we hope that you will think about the holidays now so that you can save this December date - December 17, 2019. That's the day that Living Legends of Alexandria will be hosting the evening performance of that famous Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol," at the Little Theatre of Alexandria, just for Living Legends' supporters. In addition to enjoying the play, attendees will be treated to a pre-show reception with food, fun and festivities, so please reserve the date. Details will be provided in future communications.
