MECK Pre-K is Back to School!
MECK Pre-K is back in session with in-person instruction for the 2020-2021 school year. Providers, teachers and families have been working together to get our students back to school safely and carefully. Here are some of the changes that have been made:
  • Class sizes have been reduced to allow for social distancing.
  • MECK Pre-K leadership is having regular operational/health/policy check-ins with State and Local Departments of Health and Human Services, Mecklenburg County, Smart Start Leadership and Child Care Resources staff.
  • Mecklenburg County Public Health Leadership is hosting educational sessions for MECK Pre-K Providers and Teachers.
  • MECK Pre-K is working with providers to ensure that they adhere to required NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) health and safety protocols.
  • MECK Pre-K is providing regular communications to enrolled families about COVID-19 safety.

MECK Pre-K is Still Taking Applications
MECK Pre-K is still taking applications for the current school year! While we have lifted the income eligibility requirement, priority is still being given to families with a household income that is at or below 400% of the federal poverty level.

Find out if you qualify for MECK Pre-K by answering two simple questions:

  • Do you live in Mecklenburg County?
  • Will your child turn four on or before August 31?

If you answered “yes” to both questions, you can apply to MECK Pre-K! Visit our Enrollment Page to download an application and learn more.
MECK Pre-K Locations
This summer, MECK Pre-K expanded to include even more classrooms conveniently located in childcare centers across Mecklenburg County.

Visit our Locations Page to see a full list of MECK Pre-K locations. You will find an interactive map and downloadable locations sheet.

If you are a provider interested in hosting a MECK Pre-K classroom in 2021-2022, we will take applications in spring of next year.
