Lower speed limit on Kennedy Blvd., safer pedestrian signal at West Shore Blvd.
Two changes to Kennedy Blvd. will create a safer environment for drivers and pedestrians. The Florida Department of Transportation last week installed new 40mph speed limit signs on Kennedy Blvd. in Westshore. The new 40mph speed limit lowers the speed from 45mph, which is consistent with scheduled changes for Kennedy. Kennedy Blvd. will now have a 40mph speed limit from Memorial Hwy. to the University of Tampa.
The City of Tampa has added a leading pedestrian interval at midday to all four legs of the Kennedy / West Shore Blvd. intersection. This will give pedestrians a three-second head start when they request the walk signal. Midday was determined to be the time when there are the most pedestrians in the intersection and would not significantly impact traffic congestion.
