Hello Crescendo Families!

We are excited to begin another fantastic year of music learning and can’t wait to see everyone again. If you are new to us, we welcome you. If you are returning, welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful summer.

We're excited to announce the grand opening of our newly expanded studio at our Premier Way location! We've been working hard renovating our new second floor space to have it ready for the start of Fall lessons.

This fall we have several talented and highly qualified, new teachers joining us:

  • Lyra Brown, (Piano, Voice, Musical Theatre)
  • Courtney Friggstad (Piano, Voice)
  • Dwayne Livingstone (Bass, Guitar, Piano, Voice)
  • Katrina Wei (Piano)

It is a new year, which means it is a great time to start things off on the right foot. As such, we want to take this opportunity to share some valuable practice tips with you. Please try to ensure you set up your practice space in a quiet area. Be sure you open your last week’s lesson plan from your teacher and be sure you have a pencil handy to mark up your music and highlight key points. Parents, any support and encouragement you can give throughout the practice, is a value to students and their teachers as well.

It is recommended that students practice at least 4 or 5 days per week, in order to make progress and build confidence in their music. Please email us if you would like any further advice regarding practice routines as we have a number of additional resources available for you including the video below.

We wish to thank you for your business and your ongoing support. We are so thankful for each and every one of you, our valued students and families and we look forward to making beautiful music together with you this year.

Warm Regards,

Leanne and Dean Cummings

TEACHER FEATURE

Lyra Brown

Each month we like to introduce one of our teachers. This month's Teacher Feature is Lyra Brown.

We are thrilled to introduce Lyra Brown to our Crescendo teaching team. She teaches voice, piano, songwriting, musical theatre and ukulele. Lyra (pronounced like “lyr-ics”) is a talented and experienced musician with a passion for teaching. With two studio albums under her belt and over a decade of experience in gigging, recording, producing, and songwriting, she is excited to expand her musical horizons by sharing her knowledge and expertise with students of all ages. She believes that music is a natural healer and that anyone, regardless of age or experience, can benefit from learning and playing music.

Lyra’s teaching philosophy is centered around joy and positive reinforcement, and she teaches in a holistic way that helps build great musicians. She has studied voice and classical piano throughout her life and is always looking forward to igniting the spark of music in the hearts of her students. In addition to being a professional musician and teacher, Lyra is currently studying Communications at MacEwan University. She is also a professional dog trainer and an avid swimmer and has enjoyed starring in various musical theater productions throughout her life.

We are confident that Lyra will instill a love and knowledge for music in the hearts and lives of all her students.

STUDENT FEATURE

Collin McElwaine

This month we'd like to introduce you to a very talented drummer, Collin McElwaine. Enjoy this video of him playing "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor for Crescendo's Video Showcase
