We are closed Monday, September 3rd for Labor Day !
Enjoy the holiday and come visit us during business hours the rest of the week!

It's time for another Jewelry Show at The Caring Place on September 6th!  These shows are wonderful shopping events for the jewelry enthusiast!  Just like our thrift shops, all sales support the mission of The Caring Place.  So, even when you shop at a Jewelry Show, you are "shopping for good!"

What will you find at a Jewelry Show at The Caring Place?  Our volunteers hand pick a variety of fine and costume pieces for our customers.  Yes, you will find real gold and silver along with a variety of accessories!  Our volunteer staff keep the fine items together so they are easy to find.

When you are done selecting all your pieces, our volunteers will send your items to the cashier in the community room to calculate your final purchase!  After you make your purchase, don't forget to head across the street to The Shops at The Caring Place to see what's in for fall!

Our popular Chat & Chew event is back on Friday, September 7th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is your opportunity to get an up close & personal look at The Caring Place.  Learn about our history, our impact and our mission.  This event is over lunch, so RSVP is required.  And, don't forget to invite a friend!  Contact Rita at 512-943-0702 or for more information or to RSVP.

Can you believe we are already preparing for a holiday event?  That's right, Sweets, Treats & Trees is right around the corner, and we hope to find you there on Thursday evening, November 8th.  This is the holiday shopping event of the year, that is sure to put you in a festive mood as you decorate for Christmas!  Mark your calendar!

Teachers Know How to Get More Bang for their Buck at The Caring Place!

We all know it's true; teachers are some of the most creative and dedicated workers around.  They've followed a career path that gives them a day filled with surprises, challenges, blessings and children, lots and lots of children!  One of our own volunteers here at The Caring Place, Kim Knapp-Denning, is a high school teacher in Round Rock ISD.  Kim recently sent us some pictures of her classroom that you'll find above and below this article.

Why is Kim's classroom so special?  Well, it's inviting, colorful, has lots of personality, comfortable for students and displays a little of her own life to share with her class!  But, the piece that filled us with joy the most, is that Kim purchased many of the supplies, furniture and decor for her classroom from The Caring Place!

"I love telling my coworkers I got it at The Caring Place!"   - Kim Denning-Knapp

Like any good teacher, Kim keeps her students' needs in mind when she shops for her classroom.  She said she certainly didn't need a vanity with a mirror for her classroom, but when she saw one in the store, she knew the mirror  would open up the space if she attached it to a bookcase.  Due to Kim's volunteer experience, she is no stranger to the amazing assortment of lamps we have at The Caring  Place, too.  Teacher tip: lamps are great when you want to to change the lighting and mood in a classroom.  Sometimes the intense fluorescent lights are overwhelming after hours of non-stop brainwork on things like Psychology, History and Philosophy in Kim's classroom.  Thanks Kim for your insight into shopping at The Caring Place!

If your lucky, you'll find Kim volunteering at Second Helping on a Saturday!

* Insider Shopping Tip:  Our stores feature 10% off merchandise every Tuesday!

What About the Community Benefit?

Even this teacher knows when donating to and shopping for items at Second Helping and The Shops at The Caring Place, she is also helping to fund programs and services that help our community.   Sales from both stores MORE than cover the operating costs at The Caring Place.  This means when you make a financial contribution, 100% of it directly impacts neighbors in need.  Where should you shop?

The Shops at The Caring Place
2000 Railroad Avenue | Monday-Saturday, 9am-4pm | Thursdays until 7pm

Second Helping
3700 Williams Drive | Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm

September Food Pantry Needs

We recently received some wonderful television coverage about our needs in the Food Pantry, but the needs continue all year. We have a convenient Donation drive through at the back of our building at 2000 Railroad Avenue for you to make additional donations.  It's open Monday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

This is our most recent Food Pantry Needs List.  Please know we appreciate all donations, so don't feel like you have to stick to this list.  Many of these items are always in demand and never seem to leave the list.  What you give allows us to provide variety for our neighbors in need.

For information on holding a food drive click here.  And, for information on giving a monetary donation to assist our neighbors, click here.  You can reserve a barrel
Vases are something we normally have a lot of in both of our thrift stores, but at a cost of a dollar or two, you might find creating custom color vases is a simple way to draw attention to a single rose, or impress with your design skills.  Painting a few the same color creates a purposeful collection.  This bright trio would be a welcome pop of color in a room filled with white.

Your item donations, shopping trips to our thrift stores, financial donations and volunteer time make a difference to people in our community.  This is just a glimpse of the impact you helped us make in the previous month.

Where You Shop Matters...
