Healey International Relief Foundation (HIRF), in partnership with the Foundation for the Localization and Innovation of Global Health Technologies (F.L.I.G.H.T.) and with support from long-term partner MAP International, has boosted Sierra Leone’s hospitals with a major donation of personal protective equipment and amoxicillin. Arriving at a pivotal moment as the country nears elimination of Mpox, the shipment is helping health facilities safeguard recent progress while building resilience against future health challenges.
The contribution included more than 450,000 pairs of gloves, 350,000 masks, 760 isolation gowns, and a supply of amoxicillin. These resources are vital for protecting frontline health workers and for providing essential treatment—not only for Mpox-related complications, but for a wide range of bacterial infections that patients face every day.
“On the ground in Sierra Leone, we see how difficult it can be for facilities to keep gowns, masks, and gloves in stock. These are simple items, but they make all the difference in keeping health workers safe,” said Josephine Garnem, Executive Director of HIRF.
