Dear Members and Friends,
As the temperature and the frenzy of summer cool just a little, many of you are starting fall classes – we thank our instructors for offering such a great and varied lineup of courses.
Our Fall Members' Party will be held outdoors at the Wendell Gilley Museum on Tuesday, September 13th. Please see the invitation below – we hope you can make it.
We have several hybrid classes this fall. Just as Zoom was a learning curve two years ago, bear with us as we iron out the wrinkles of hybrid. We hope the ability for people to participate either in person or remotely will open up all kinds of opportunities and flexibility.
Our Food for Thought series begins on September 23rd with a presentation by Carl Little. We'll continue this series virtually for the time being, though we hope to offer an in-person Coffee Clash event in October – stay tuned.

Our Food for Thought series opens with a Zoom presentation and slide show with Carl Little. In his talk, Carl will highlight the process of curating three shows currently on view in Maine: “Picturing Penobscot Bay” at the Penobscot Marine Museum; “The Art of Monson: A Bicentennial Celebration” at the Monson Arts Gallery; and “Clark Fitz-Gerald: Castine’s Celebrated Sculptor-in-Residence” at the Castine Historical Society. Work from the shows will be included in the talk.
This event is free and open to everyone. Don't miss it!

Dorothy Clunan
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Dorothy Clunan on August 26th.
Among many other things, Dorothy was a co-instigator in the founding of the college. It all began more than 20 years ago, when Jim Clunan, recently retired from a career in the U.S. Foreign Service, attended a current events class at a fledgling senior college at the University of Southern Maine. Excited about the idea of a college for people in the third half of their lives, Jim mentioned the concept to his then ex-wife, Dorothy, who challenged Jim to start a college on Mount Desert Island, saying she would help him. That was when Jim knew “they were back together again.” Acadia Senior College brought them back to one another, which, in Jim’s words, “was the greatest gift it could bear.”
We will miss Dorothy's smile and enthusiasm. There will be a celebration of her life in Maine at a later date.
If anyone would like to send cards and flowers to Jim, his address is:
1200 Atlantic Shores Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23454

The deadline to submit course proposals for Winter 2023 is Friday, September 23rd.
Have an idea for a class? We're looking for online offerings, in-person classes or perhaps a combination. Flexibility is the name of the game these days!
What life experience, expertise, or adventure are you eager and willing to share? What writer has been your life-long favorite? Which artists inspire you with their masterpieces? What unforgettable foreign travels have you taken? Your ASC friends look forward to escaping the winter doldrums and joining with you to share stimulation and knowledge.
