Making Heart Connections Happen - September 2021

In September, GMHS helped 50 pets meet their match. Pictured are just a few of the happy, adoption day photos. Thank you to those who chose to open their heart and home to a formerly homeless pet!

Could you be the next to make a heart connection?

If you are considering adoption, submit an adoption questionnaire prior to your visit. Click here to get started. If you have any questions about adoption or about specific pets, do not hesitate to reach out to our adoption team at (804) 693-5520 ext. 102 or by email.
Clear the Shelters, sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, is an annual, nationwide adoption campaign has been helping families find and adopt over 250,000 shelter pets since 2015. We are thrilled to share 53 GMHS pets found their homes during this successful campaign. Many thanks to those who decided to think adoption first!

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.
Saving Lives, One Surgery at a Time

GMHS' Fixin' to Save Spay & Neuter Clinic is an invaluable part of the shelter’s life-saving roadmap and offers access to low- and no-cost spay/neuter surgeries. Services offered at the clinic meet an important community need, and this year alone, 2,907 surgeries have been performed!

Spaying or neutering a single pair of unsterilized cats or dogs will save the lives of thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies. For example, one unaltered female cat could give birth to 512 new kittens in two years' time (Source: ASPCA). And, that is a conservative estimate!
If you or someone you know needs their pet altered, call our Clinic team at (804) 694-0349 to schedule an appointment.

Compassionate Community
GMHS received a donation of cat litter from the Nestle Purina Warehouse in Chester, VA. With so many kittens and adult cats in our care, you can imagine just how much litter we use.

Many thanks to Nestle Purina for sharing your heart for homeless pets!
Pictured are Kelly Marderosian and Peyton Marderosian (left to right), two GMHS friends and supporters with heart for homeless pets.
During the Dog Days of Summer, YRC Cinemas and Tower Park Management collected donations for GMHS. They collected much-needed items like towels and linens. We are so grateful for your life-saving partnership and our generous community!
Bayport Credit Union Gloucester Branch Manager Ricky Meyers presents the donation to GMHS.
Thank you to our friends at Bayport Credit Union for their donation in support of our life-saving mission. We are proud to count you among our friends and supporters.
Thank you to Grounds & Hounds, a coffee company with a heart for homeless pets. They donate 20% of their profits to dog rescue organizations just like ours!

When you purchase coffee or gear from Grounds & Hounds and use our link, 10% of your purchases will go to benefitting our rescue! You can even use our code, GMHumaneSociety, and save 15% on your purchase.

You get to sip great coffee (or hot cocoa) knowing that you’re helping pups at GMHS every morning!
