National Falls Prevention Day

Dear Colleagues, 

On September 22nd this month, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) is sponsoring the 10th Annual National Falls Prevention Awareness DayThis is a critical issue in the longevity economy. An evidence-based infographic from NCOA outlines the true cost of falls to our society: 



48 states participated in Falls Prevention Awareness Day last year, joining more than 70 national organizations, including the American Occupational Therapy Association, other professional associations, and federal agencies. Remembering Greg O'Neill 

We have lost a true friend and leader in aging.  Greg O'Neill, a beloved member of the GSA team for more than 20 years, has passed away. Greg received our Leadership in Longevity award in 2017 for leadership, vision & integrity. Please consider a donation in his honor to one of these causes: NIH Children's Inn, The Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University or the Alzheimer's Association. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.

Senior Housing News Summit in Los Angeles

MFA was proud to join industry leaders this year at the Senior Housing News (SHN) Summit in Los Angeles! Important topics discussed during the gathering included innovations in senior living options and voice-activated technology platforms. According to a summit recap from the SHN team, Ginna Baik, strategic business development manager for senior care at CDW-Healthcare, shared that, "In the top 100 providers in senior living right now, of those, I've probably had a conversation about smart apartments with nearly 80% of them." 
NIA Eureka Prize Competition Announced

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) has announced their Eureka Prize Competition: "Improving Care for People with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Using Technology (iCare-AD/ADRD) Challenge. The total prize for this competition is up to $400,000 and up to 3 winners will be awarded. NIA is seeking technology-based application solutions that foster connections between relevant stakeholders to improve dementia care coordination and/or care navigation. Submission period ends on June 30, 2019.

GSA's 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting

GSA's 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting will take place November 14-18, 2018 at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts and will focus on the theme, "The Purposes of Longer Lives."  A special day of programming,  Inside Innovative Technologies , will feature cutting-edge research and the startups putting these technologies in action to improve our lives as we age.
