According to Texas A&M the first confirmed case of monkeypox in a 4-year-old greyhound was verified this week. Pets can become infected through close contact with a person who is infected.
The A&M staff of the Veterinary Medicine & Biometrics department say it's more likely that a pet can contract the disease from a humane as opposed to a humane catching it from their pet.
They site if you have contracted monkeypox to isolate yourself from your family and pets for 21 days to avoid transmitting it to them.
The symptoms of monkeypox in pets are similar to those in humans and can include lesions that look like blisters or pimples, fever, cough, inflamed eyes, swollen lymph nodes and runny nose. If your pet exhibits any of these symptoms, you should contact your vet immediately.
